Super Marisa Land sucks but New Super Marisa Land is pretty fun. So is Super Marisa World (by a different group).

Twilight Frontier have some other fun fan games, including PatchCon (tower defence), MegaMari (Mega Man clone), and Komeiji Satori no Jousou Kyouiku (isometric puzzle game, pretty popular here last year).

Gensou Shoujo Taisen (typically translated as Fantasy Maiden Wars) is a pretty good Super Robot Wars clone.
It's split into an EoSD chapter, a PCB chapter, and a demo for the IN chapter came out at Reitaisai. They also throw in some PC-98 characters if you're into that stuff.

Yeah it is pretty inefficient.
No idea what it's doing to use up so much power. It does use the SMAA algorithm as its antialiasing though, that's a good sign. Unfortunately I'm willing to bet that the author maxed out the settings like a dumdum.
