I'm just not understanding this game.
The flight feels really uncontrollable and it's hard to get in on opponents. Most of the attacks seem really weak and slow, with me only being able to chain up to 3 of them together before combos just drop.
And after several matches of experimenting, I can't figure out for the life of me how to do spellcards, or what the criteria for it is. I normally just mash D and random directions every now and then until something happens.

Are there any guides out there yet, because I'm really disappointed with this game thus far, and think it's probably just my fault for being so bad at it.

I'm finding some characters easier to get into than others, Reimu seems to have the lowest learning curve, Marisa can pull off insane combos, i only just got that Byakurens scroll thing isn't an attack and that you need to declare her heavy ranged skills. No idea what i'm doing with Miko though.

way you do spellcards is afaik based on your character, I've only practiced marisa so far and she gets stars near her bullet bar.
For the special spellcards you first declare it, after which you don't regen bullet meter and dunno if there is other stuff, then you repeat the input and bam.
Last word is only available when popularity is at 100% and is done by A+B+C+D

In story mode, without having played the demo version, I had the most fun with Futo and Ichirin. And the AI kinda doesn't like Mamizou's 5AAAY (repeat). Playing as Byakuren was torture.

Miko and Futo are absolute rapetrains once they get going, though Miko's first preset is kinda shit (I recommend the third).

Byakuren's the only one that I've actually had to continue with so far, though I probably will with Nitori too, since you can't seem to recharge your kappa battery.

after a couple hours testing Reimu, Marisa, Nitori, and Miko, combos in general are very short except Marisa who can link 5A after 6B and dashing B for a while, which makes sense because combos in Soku were shitty and boring like these are
Basically supposed to just do AAA then 6, 2, or 8 A, then bullets that go in that direction, then maybe a special, or just AAA special.
Damage isn't very high, it's about BBCSEX level except with not a lot of variation besides comboing into spellcards, which involves declaring before you hit them, but they do like 50-60% damage. Reimu gets about 2300 for me for shitall meter and good options afterwards, Nitori gets about 2100 with the same. Marisa I get stopped at 2500ish, and Miko combos are kind of weird.
There are limits like SWR too but they're harder to hit, but it might just be me sucking

Also what you can do is really position dependent, sometimes after any of Reimu's floorbounces you can follow it up for another 800 damage or so, Nitori's shit has a habit of whiffing horribly, and it's irrelevant for Marisa because she just kind of Shadow Dios things and does AAA6A AAA6A that it doesn't matter where you are or what you want, you do it. I haven't done enough with Miko yet

Screwing around with vs comp it seems to have taken a turn away from Soku's "shoot bullets at each other and when someone tries to graze them you hit them with a physical attack" and more towards footsies with melee moves and using bullets for combos and when you want to lock someone who's being a faggot down
I don't have a very good grasp on how mixup works or if it even exists because story mode is a shitstomp except for Mamizou's stampede card which is just "when the screen shakes back the fuck up" and kokoro's big gay shark card which is big and gay, and I haven't played online yet. Do crouchblocking, lows, and overheads exist?

her last word is the best thing. ass isn't as good as Snake's though.
parts of Byakuren story mode felt like hell because her bullets are so butts, but Dean Drive: Foxhound is wicked sicknasty and does way too much damage, and having to charge it is irrelevant

I've read here that you can't change the resolution, and as my native res is somewhat low the default window size doesn't fit at all.

I don't want to go fullscreen either, so I used sizer and one of this resolutions so the window can fit snugly against my taskbar while keeping the ratio.

Bloody hell, that was a nightmare. if you mean the delayed activation rose ring (I'm using her 2nd preset), it's too short range (but fantastic for dealing with the bullshit shark spell)... but I finally managed to beat her with timing, as you can peg her with a basic shot once every cycle, right after the 8-way shot, if you time and space it right.

Miko kicks the ass of everyone in story.
Surprisingly enough, so does Kokoro for the most part despite having no skills. I only had two issues her whole story and they were Nitori's card where she flies around, and one other I forget that was yet another case of them not staying still so I could beat their face. Her melee strength is absurd compared to most characters, and her masks allow easy combo chains. Still, too bad she has no skills, I want to wreck everyone's shit with her.

i found a way to fix the issue with dithering shader being pre-applied to the sprites and so, ending on the rips, so i'll try reripping everything.

miko and kokoro's sprites are free of that mainly because of the newer ripper's inability to handle the cape shader, which forced me to downgrade to older version which ignored it, or handled it better.

It's simple. Both strong attacks and most specials specials aren't instant. You "prepare" them while pressing the buttons and she will use them automatically when she's in range/position. And there seems to be a fixed minimum delay between preparing and using any move.

the delay is while the icon by her meter is blinking, when it's solid she can use it, and then there's a time limit where she'll use it regardless of range

also, the command grab (cage) will only trigger if your enemy is in hitstun, so smack them around first

That makes sense. Well, I keep making stupid mistakes, like preparing 6B and that rose-grab. She's punching enemy away and then grab nothing but air.

Does anybody know how to Kappa? I'm losing every game with her, having absolutely no idea if I should spam those weak projectiles or try to get in close no matter what - and then, her basic combo pushes the enemy far away again.
