I still wonder why someone would take the time to translate threads from /a/ or /jp/ into Japanese.

I get that people might be sort of curious about people's opinions but it still sounds like way too much effort.

Well, in the case of vgperson's 2ch compilation translations it's because they're very interesting stories. And because (s)he wants to translate the next Densha Otoko before anybody else.
