Obviously, but that's not even the main problem. The real problem starts later, when people who actually speak Japanese lose all interest because they, well, speak Japanese and don't need translations. Then the only people left who still want to edit things are incompetent morons. As the touhouwiki already proven, they can run unchecked breaking things for years.

I can live with rough unfinished drafts when they're just that, but this shit will never be properly finished in the first place.

All types are reference types, with the exception of primitives like integers and floats. The following code in java:
> Foo jickle = new Foo();
> jickle.hcNevrLoz(5);
> Foo calooby = jickle;
> calooby.ohYeahSnap();
is like the following C++ code:
> Foo *jickle = new Foo();
> jickle->hcNevrLoz();
> Foo *calooby = jickle;
> calooby->ohYeahSnap();
Reference types in java are like references to classes in C, except instead of the assignment operator calling a method in the class, it changes what the reference references. Also, garbage collection. Classes can't be used as value types, which means there's no concept of RAII in java.

I think they are trying to antagonize as many parts of the western Touhou fandom as possible. They post like worst people from /v/ and tell people to stay away from /jp/, so they will have no support here.

They clearly are not working together with the guys from Gensokyo and are in fact trying to outspeed them with their patch. No support from them.

They tell people not to actually work on the wiki, but on their side instead and the wiki doesn't mention them anywhere. So no support there as well and most likely none from Pooshlmer too as a result.

I don't see why you guys think this will suck so bad. For years we've been getting fan translations from Anime episodes a few hours after the RAWs are released on the web. While the quality may not be stellar it's on par with the Gensokyo.org's patches and much better than some like EoSD's one.

Not to mention the amount of text to be translated is not going to be that much, there is little dialogue in the game and not so much text apart from music and spellcard naming. In fact for something as big as Touhou this should have been happening ever since MoF, instead of what, nearly a month that it took for the TD patch to come out?

The quick patch is possible because the game engine is going to be similar to the previous shooters released before, thus making small modifications to the code will enable them to patch it.

HM is a new entity all together that would require new patch coding and all. You could argue that they had the trial for months now to work with though but it's clearly not their priority.

I still think there is a big chance this quick-patch will backfire in their faces since ZUN will make some engine changes as he already confirmed that the default resolution is different.

I wasn't around for whatever shitstorm erupted over the wiki fairies so I certainly can't say what /jp/ felt about them, but I don't really care for them at all.

Touhou as a series already has a lot of trouble with fans and other people not really being able to tell where canon ends and fanon begins. The current wiki before always seemed like a clean, informative place for actual, real information to be posted. That was the whole point of splitting off from the wikia, wasn't it? The fairies seem to muddle this up somewhat, at least visually.

That and I am yet to see anything from the artist that made them, that would cause me to even begin to like him. So my predisposition towards him certainly isn't helping any.

I've argued about this in the past (and a few people have strongly disagreed with me), but I really think they're straying from that goal.

Many official sections are stubs, untranslated, or outright empty, but there are long "Fandom" sections like this:
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Marisa_Kirisame#Fandom

There are also purely fanon categories/pages like this:
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Fan-made_characters

And there's a huge category for English-language fan fiction:
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Category:Fanfiction

My opinion is that the Wiki should be entirely for canon materials and out-of-universe information, with the exception of fangame-specific stuff e.g. http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Marine_Benefit/Characters

If they have to have fanon, it should be in a separate namespace or something.

I see it like trivia sections on Wikipedia. It's not what the site is for, which is why they removed them.

Not that all wikis have to be exactly like Wikipedia, mind you, but I think that model suits a Touhou enyclopedia.

By a separate namespace I mean something like "Fanon:Reimu Hakurei" where people can write about armpits and nicknames all they like. And it would begin with a templated notice like
>Attention: The information on this page is non-canon. For canon, see [[Reimu Hakurei]].

I don't think they're tricking people or anything like that, but I think there should be a divide at the page level at the very least. A "Fandom" section doesn't belong on the Reimu page any more than a "Users Who Would Fug Reimu" section does.

I don't see anything wrong with how the fanon sections are treated now in touhouwiki. I don't understand why did you mention Wikipedia's trivia at all. Check the guidance for the reasons it is avoided: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Trivia_sections.. "Additional information" (the canon one) in touhouwiki is exactly the wikipedia's trivia. Do you suggest to remove it?
At the same time wikipedia has such section as "xxx in mass media", "impact on popular culture" and so on.
The fanon sections should just be filtered out from some outdated shit no one cares about. For example "Some fans call Okuu ⑥". No one does this any more (except for people who read it on touhouwiki).

I wouldn't mind so much because they're pages that are there for people who want them, but a few times I've searched for a specific thing in the search bar and something like "ALICE MEETS NARUTO IN DRAGON BALL Z LAND!!!" has come up on the autocomplete.

I'm guessing they're sorted by hits or relevance, but for more specific names/terms it can be a problem.

This won't work. You need a plan. Start with fixing various typos on the wiki until they stop watching your every move for newfaggotry. Always comment in the same way and check in the "minor edit" box. Then you can start editing the offending pages. Find ones from years ago that nobody looks at. Replace their entire contents with spaces or random strings of symbols of roughly the same size, then do the usual - "minor edit", "fixed a typo". If you stick to old forgotten pages, they'll literally never find out.
