Loved Ever17, but it does feel like EVERY DAMN STORY Kotaro Uchikoshi touches has the same "twist". The Infinity series VNs, 999, Virtue's Last Reward, and most likely even VLR's sequel will.

I felt like this in high school when a friend of mine told me he went to his house and a girl we both know was just standing there. Total VN intro moment. I'd have been a condescending, stuck-up minor character who provides comic relief but also gives the protag proper advice time to time.

The three infinity games were radically different from each other. Only Ever17 and Remember11 have any significant amount of similarity, with both featuring people locked in some place where they will die in seven days. However, the plot plays out completely differently in the two games.

Kotarou Uchikoshi is NOT 'the writer of Ever17' (or 'the infinity series'). He was A WRITER (not even the main writer), and in Remember11 the scenario planner if I recall correctly. Although I wouldn't go as far as to call him a hack, he is vastly overrated and lacks originality. The Zero Escape series is just him rehashing stuff from his time at KID because he can't create anything better alone.

The infinity series was directed by Takumi Nakazawa, who was also the main writer for the three games. He left KID after Remember11 to form his own studio (Regista), and he has since made two infinity-inspired VNs, I/O and Root Double, which seem to both be very well-received and similar yet different from the previous infinity games (as is the case between the original infinity games themselves).
