Existing Projects:

- Album project: This project is almost complete. To view the files in the project, the dropbox is public through this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7vymrf03krqs545/xMtFnbHOQo?v=0mcng

- Loli Harvest Moon: Some discussion of a design and some art has been put forward. An anon is starting on the engine and it is accessible through the public SVN repository in https://subversion.assembla.com/svn/lollysprout/

Discussion of any potential other projects is, of course, also welcome.

As with tru-/jp/ spirit, we have no fucking idea. But it's there, and it's something we made, alright, isn't it?

And no problems with space, because the great thing about it is, once the album is finished, we can move it somewhere else for storage, like a mediafire or something, and we can use the same space for new projects over and over. And no worries about a lot of people submitting - it's at least 2 GB, it's only music. I think it'd last a project at a time.

Will the album focus on specifically one genre?

I think it would be best to release a batch of albums at one time, one for each specific genre, and include an okay number of tracks depending on how many people submit. Having a cluster of different genres on one album just seems a bit odd.

If yes to the original question, then completely ignore what I just said.

The first album didn't have any genre requirements since the amount of contributors was unknown. Future albums however could definitely be genre focused. It would also be a good opportunity as an artist to learn a new genre, as long as it's not super focused like uptempo jazzcore funkgaze etc.

Reposting from the last thread.

I wanted to talk about the program design so everyone has a clear picture of how it works.

It seems that you are using an analogy of a ``board" and you have ``pieces" on it. I like this analogy since it's a lot like a chess board and most people understand that concept.

I think it might be better if the ``pieces" only contain data about themselves and you would use a ``manager" class to move them around.

For example, there would be a ``player manager" which takes the user input and moves the ``player piece" around the board. There would also be a ``loli manager" which would be the AI behind the lolis and would move them around the board.

Please discuss.

Also.. Allow me to bump the thread but..

I've just checked the folders, so I'm assuming that the project is a Java one using graphics like Rpg Maker right? Is anon really working on it? There's isn't even a basic region class for tiles, which take only 1 minute to make.

If that's the case I don't see any reasons to go with the Java route as it's adding difficulty and time, might as well just use rpg maker or something. If aiming too high right off the bat I don't think the game will ever be done, which is a shame.

Sorry if I sound a bit harsh.

Java's not too bad if you have people who really know what they're doing with it. I do like RPG Maker, but it's commercial software (yes, yes I know about piracy, but that could lead to problems down the road).

I thought I would take some time this weekend and see what's being done on the game and look at the folders and maybe take a crack at making it a little more friendly.

I'll just repost this from the other thread:

We have received the last 2 tracks that we've been waiting for - "tsuki" and "If I Can't Have You Then Nobody Can".

The former is a short piano piece with Vocaloid and the latter is an Electronic (sounds like chiptune) piece of average (~3 min) length.

As soon as we enter that into the list, we can begin the arrangements of the final tracklist and we can start placing the tracks into the main album. The album will be finished at that point, and we can submit the entered tracks to the crossfade guy.

And here is the last list we had from the last thread:

CD1 :
1. Rhetorics
2. A Misaligned Pulchritude
3. Ascend
4. Endless Waltz
5. You Are Worthless
6. Locked Girl " Luna Dial
7. Into The Dimensional Gerbera Event
8. A Miracle
9. Devil's Adorable Disciple
10. Daydream in a Cup
11. The Deceiver of the Dimension Ennea
12. Let's Rock This
13. Grimoire of Alice
Duration 53:51

CD2 :
1. Incan
2. Lovely Girls Anthem
3. Mr. Palm Tree
4. wanderer
5. Aftermath
6. Like The Sun
7. Celestial // Spell Cards
8. Superficial
9. Canopy Mist
10. Empty Space
11. reunion
12. Floating Islands
13. Gensokyo Past and Present
Duration : 50:50

I also have a question: for the tracks A Misaligned Pulchritude, Let's Rock This and Empty Space, are we going to use the vocal versions or the instrumental versions?

You didn't understand my post. Java is mega shit, but you should go with what you like. That's the first rule of programming, doubly so when you're a hobbyist and can't learn a new language in two days straight.

You want to go with java? Go with java. You need to know that java is shit, but java is not unworkable with (it's not PHP), so if you like it more, use it.

C# is okay. Some people call it java as it should have been. Still very limited and slow, but more workable with. But C# is in the process to be abandoned by Microsoft.

If you want a higher level language that is also good, try Python or something like that. But if you want to go with java, don't force yourself: go with java.

So for "tsuki" I coulnd't see it as anything else than the final song of the album, so it changed the order. I couldn't leave two low energy songs following each other so I bring The Deceiver.., the transition with tsuki is good.

I think we should add some silence between tracks, especially between :
Daydream in a Cup > Let's Rock This
If I Can't Have You Then Nobody Can > reunion
reunion > Empty Spaces
So maybe the respective artists can do this, or I can do this with Audacity.

Finally I think we should also equalize the volume of the album. I know that if you raise the volume to much it will cause clipping, I know that lowering down the volume of high volume track will waste the work of the artist, and I know that it's natural for some tracks to be louder or quiter.
If you want I can do the work but I'm not sure about how audacity handles the quality so if someone knows how to better do this please do it.

oh yeah. i agree with what you said. right now, of course, there are no lolis for the loli manager to manage. the player manager is an extension of the board class itself, for now (RenderedLollyBoard). it receives the key input from the game runner and then moves the player and camera accordingly.

after i work out the movement animation it'll be easier to get into the actual game mechanics.

Whoa hey, hold on there! I was just playing video games and took a short nap just now.

Anyway, I thought I had replied to you in the last thread, but I guess it 404'd first or I was just dreaming. To answer your question, well, I guess you can find my stuff at my soundcloud. https://soundcloud.com/dekafumo
It's pretty much empty, but there's gonna be more stuff in the future, naturally. I'm only starting to feel confident enough with my compositions again, so this project is literally my first 'real' work. Sorry, I guess that's not the answer you're looking for, but that's how it is orz

Well, actually that's a lie. I used to have a youtube channel with my compositions that I used to post in /jp/'s OC threads a while ago. But they were so embarrassing that I closed down that channel. You could probably find the link in the archives if you dig hard enough (it's not that difficult) but the channel's closed anyway and it's kind of embarrassing...

It's funny how people say "java is so slowww" and then they recommend using python.
Or say about security risk while watching videos on youtube using flash.

Also, it doesn't matter how beautiful code is right now, how it's designed and what abstractions it uses. OOP, OOD, patterns - fuck that shit. The main enemy right now is premature death of the game due to abandonment and loss of interest. 99% of such anonymous collaboration projects go to nowhere and code quality has nothing to do with it. Your goal should be survival, coding as much functionality as possible. And be optimistic.

Tracklist guy here... We're almost done.

Added silence before Empty Space.
Added silence before Let's Rock This.
Added silence before and after Lovely Girls Anthem and added a very short fade out at the end.
Added silence before and after Runion and added a very short fade out at the end.

Increased volume of Endless Waltz by 3.77dB
Increased volume of A Miracle by 4.7dB
Increased volume of Daydream in a Cup by 1.83 dB
Increased volume of Aftermath by 1.42dB
Increased volume of Like The Sun by 0.39dB

Compressed Locked Girl ~ Luna dial, Grimoire of Alice and Gensokyo Past and Present, and then applied gain, I let Audacity apply the gain automatically.

Encoded all the wav to v0 mp3.
Updated all the tags.

I used .wav when they were available. I added the fade out because you could hear a tic at the end of the tracks because of the brutal stop, they are very short (<1sec) but they do the job. I increased the volume based on foobar's replay gain data but without getting over -1dB, this means there is no loss in dynamic range. I compressed GJT's tracks because they really needed some compression, I let Audacity's default settings since I don't really know waht every parameter is doing.

Now Listening to the albums to see if everything is ok...

I also have a small detail I want us to attend to - it's linking the correct album art to the correct tracks and filling up the details of the tracks themselves - namely the number, artist, album, and whatever comments you might want to write on the tracks.I believe everyone has enough information of the album and the tracks to fill these up themselves, so please do so. I'd like to minimize the unnecessary effort, so when we release this, it should be at its tip-top and final shape. Besides, that's not much too far off anyway.

That being said, are there any more activities going on around the album? Are the edits finished, the art, finalized and the track details set? Because if everyone's finished, well, we can say it's released. Unfortunately, however, I'm having trouble uploading the album to mediafire due to a choppy connection. Not slow - choppy. I'll try again today, and I'll report as soon as I get it up. Someone else should try uploading somewhere too, in case I take forever on this one.

I think that >>10942902 is just being aggressive for no reason, but I do believe that we have to tread carefully in handling this. Think about it through before doing anything; do you _really_ need to have an IRC? What benefit is available from that? Is it worth the (possible) backlash?

However, I think it's a nice idea to have something telling the listeners where to contact the contributors, be it the artists, musicians, organizers, what have you. Doujin circles do this all the time, so it comes off as natural to me. This can be anything from extra pages in the booklet, a simple txt document, or a full-blown website or IRC. How this might affect the perceived 'anonymity' of the project, and the 'attention-whorish' nature, is a whole different matter.

>>10942941
>Does using twitter preclude me from posting here?
Most people in this board would outright tell you to fuck off, but as long as you try to behave and take it easy I guess it's alright. It depends on what you're using twitter for anyway. If you use it to track current events, I guess that's okay, but if you use it to socialize with your epic friends and set up awesome parties, may I suggest considering to use the exit?

I would prefer all /jp/ related works stay within /jp/ as much as possible. Ah, now this anon might be on to something. We can put the album there along with Dandy Girl and, uhhh, is there anything besides that?

Point is, putting it in a repository is a good idea, I think. It doesn't look at all attention-whorish. And when the game finishes, you can have a place to put it as well. You can even store the OC threads there if you're so inclined, along with any other /jp/-born projects.

Yes, I feel this is the natural way to go about things. We can then have the repository linked in future project threads/OC threads. Any announcement of the completion of a project, as well as any release, could be done from within the repository/these threads. This way, we make sure everything stays as in-house as possible, keeping the community-based spirit alive.

...but didn't we have this sort of idea before? I remember discussing a similar thing when /jp/ was trying to create its own, what was it, VN magazine? It's some sort of magazine, I'm sure. Whatever became of the repository idea?

There's a massive difference between the 2.

If you stick to LAN, its easy.
If you need internet based gameplay, you're in for a world of hell if its a real time game.

How about this sort of description?

/jp/ Music Compilation One is a collection of songs, made by /jp/ers which they, the contributors themselves, are fond of. The project uses the label of the first /jp/ project, though they are likely not the same people who participated in the first.

/jp/ Music Conpilation is comprised of 2 CDs: CD-J is "rock and instrumental oriented" with a couple of Vocaloid entries and CD-P is "electro oriented" with a couple of exceptions and a true vocal entry. Both tracks finish with a similar tone to give a "sense of unity between the albums".

The Track List is as follows:

CD J :
1. Rhetorics
2. A Misaligned Pulchritude
3. Ascend
4. Endless Waltz
5. You Are Worthless
6. Locked Girl ~ Luna dial
7. Into The Dimensional Gerbera Event
8. A Miracle
9. Devil's Adorable Disciple
10. Daydream in a Cup
11. Let's Rock This
12. Grimoire of Alice
13. The Deceiver of the Dimension Ennea
14. tsuki
Total Duration - 55:07

CD P :
1. Incan
2. Lovely Girls Anthem
3. Mr. Palm Tree
4. wanderer
5. Aftermath
6. Like The Sun
7. Celestial // Spell Cards
8. Superficial
9. Canopy Mist
10. If I Can't Have You Then Nobody Can
11. reunion
12. Empty Spaces
13. Floating Islands
14. Gensokyo Past and Present
Total Duration - 53:53

Nope. We already did something with it. We had fun, we made something for everyone involved to enjoy, and if anyone else is interested they could enjoy it as well. If they weren't interested before I don't see why they would be now, and if they were interested before chances are they're already following the thread and saw the dl link. I personally hide every other general on /jp/ without even glancing at them and others have said they see this general as just a circlejerk. Hell, even people who wanted to contribute totally ignored the OP and asked stupid questions which were already answered. 1. it gets displayed on the front page. Even if it's only for a short while, it will still probably do damage.

Then again someone already shared it so discussing this is all moot now, the damage's been done.
