Rika also switched Mion and Shion, so that she befriend one, had Satoko abused so that she would have a reason to be friends with Rika, and invented Keiichi to make things interesting. She also had everyone in her fantasy world love her and think her behavior was cute, whereas in her real world, they resented her for how cute she acted. She was also sad that she was losing her birthright as shrine maiden, so she made up the Yama Inu to save the village, thus allowing her fantasy to continue with her at the center. She then killed her parents off because they were dicks. When Satoko broke her reverie by hitting her in the face with a ball, she realized that her fantasies couldn't continue, so she took some drastic measures. At least she didn't have a thousand tonne of explosives, heheheh.

Erika did indeed die while the catbox was closed, but she never even touched the island. She was added by the theory goats, or maybe Tohya, because they need a better detective than Battler, who spent more time crying, cursing Beato, and focusing on his `twisted logic' strategy than doing anything productive. Because he was characterized as so useless in Beato's stories, it couldn't be changed.

And Bern is still just a cat owned by Ikuko.

I always thought this was a shitty theory/alternate explanation, but now I realize that this is what everyone in Saikoroshi-hen must think about Rika. Even the whole "every other world was a delusion" lazy bullshit makes sense this way, since she told that Yamamoto guy about her travels.

It's really interesting even though it's not true.

In the same way, Keiichi's feelings in Watanagashi-hen after realizing that Mion was the killer were REAL. Even if she wasn't actually the culprit.

I think, quite suddenly, I’ve realized just why I have such admiration and respect and just overall love for Ryukishi07 and all the works he creates.

His novels are HUGE. Seriously, they’re longer than some novels people work on for years. And he has put them out, twice a year save for 2003, since Higurashi.

Sure, they may be very guttural at times. They are raw, filled with pure emotion, narration devolving into screams or cries or words of joy. Yet this is the strength of them: they are pure emotion and pure heart. Every single story, I know he’s poured his soul into, and from this he has become successful.

There was no publishing company save for him and his brother and his best friend. There was no chance this would catch on. There was, actually, a very high chance that his work wouldn’t make as much money as it cost time to put into it. But he sold it anyway, with his charmingly poor art and his love of mysteries and it has grown so big. Because he loves telling stories, scaring people or making them feel something, and he took a shot.

And despite everything, he’s so kind with his fans, so grateful and thankful. He’s so genuinely happy when people read his work.

And that’s the most inspiring thing in the world to me.

Plus, Rika definitely didn't consider it a dream. The reason Hanyuu said it was a dream was because she wanted Rika to focus on that world instead of thinking about alternate worlds which she can never return to. Bern is not monstrous. She has some bad mojo going on because she lived a rough life, and she finds kinda hard to empathize with people, but she's kind of cool.

Don't be fooled by Umineko's representation of Bern. In Chiru, she took great pleasure to be th villain of the tale. Sure, she was rude, but she was rude on purpose. You can even say that she didn't fall in this role before late - the end of episode 5. Before she was kind of uncaring, but after she simply decided to go with the flow.

Bern is a Voyager witch, that is, a strong metaphorical representation of how a reader wish to interact with the story he reads. She doesn't care about the characters of Umineko because, from her point of view, they are nothing but characters in a book. She's fucking with them because she's bored. She could help them, and that's what she has done in the beginning, but it's a more interesting tale to play the villain anyway.

Bern is my hero. If one day I become a Voyager Witch, I will fuck with canon exactly like she does. She's strong and cool and awesome and she's cute. Though Lambdadelta is cool too.
