I like how it's fashionable to defend things after some derivative work ruined them. "The original is still there," they say, "you can still play that!"

That's not the point. Touhou is now objectively shit because of its fans and the terrible translation patches. Touhou has been ruined by a third-party. The original, Japanese games have been reduced in quality because of what other people decided to do.

So yes, I have every right to say this is a shitty game after some teenage amateurs with a copy of Heisig and some extraction software decided to make an inferior version.

Is it really bad? I loved Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and didn't play this because it seemed different, and didn't want it to ruin characterizations. Not sure how to take the mecha angle considering what I loved about KGNE was the PTSD drama and love triangle.

Yeah, part of the reason I was so hesitant to jump onboard the Muv-Luv train despite being a huge KGNE fan was due to not really liking the comedy bits in the anime featuring the Muv-Luv cast in school. I need my angst and despair.

Another question, does it have any "bizarre" routes like an infamous Mamami route in KGNE? There the seemingly kind nurse mindbreaks Takayuki, pees all over him to mark him as her property, and makes him take hormones and get breast implants so he can feel closer to his new "mother"

The problem with most of the parody works especially Ayu Mayu Alternative is that the humour is all reference based, so it just falls flat on it's face and seems terrible when lost on people.
