What do you suggest to start with in terms of these categories, as googling "visual novel" does not help.

I've noticed a trend with you, /jp/.

Whenever someone posts a proper /jp/ thread like this, such as asking for recommendations of non-anime otaku culture related things, you laugh at them, insult them and demand that they leave.

if you say you're 'new to this whole genre' even when the first link when searching "visual novel" is a wiki article then you need to kill yourself. put some fucking honest effort into at least trying to gather information yourself.
