Hey, /mu/ here.
What are some of your favorite Japanese musicians and groups?
Do you like any of the bustling Japanese noise and psychedelic scene, or do you stick to pop or alt rock?

I'm pretty sure Boris is one of the most consistently good acts in music right now, with something to offer just about everyone.

Coaltar of the Deepers and CROW'SCLAW are pretty much the only Japanese groups I hold in any sort of esteem.

I'm no good with genres, so I'll let Wikipedia handle this one.

"Coaltar of the Deepers are an Alternative rock band from Japan. They formed in May 1991. Although primarily influenced by shoegaze and post-rock sound, their sound incorporates musical elements as diverse as thrash metal, electronica, neo-acoustic, and bossa nova. Possessing a devoted fanbase, they are also known for their Prince, The Cure, The Primitives, and My Bloody Valentine covers."

"CROW'SCLAW, a popular neoclassical/power metal instrumental dōjin band who is best known for his arrangements of music from the Touhou and Final Fantasy series of games. Lately they start to sound heavier, influenced by Metalcore and Melodic Death Metal."

CROW'SCLAW also has top-notch original compositions.
