This sometimes bothers me too, because it's the sort of meta shit that takes me out of the game. I'm way too aware it's convenient censorship.

But still, what's offensive isn't so much the picture itself, but the fact they decided to do this. There's nothing wrong with the original image. Even if it showed nipples, there'd still be nothing wrong with it. It's pretty fucking insulting that they're basically saying, "This is from Japan. It has little girls in it. Hey! This image must therefore be sexualized! All those weird Jap anime nerds are huge pedos, right?"
I have dozens of children's books I keep for the kids in my basement, and plenty of them have naked children in them, often with visible nipples or buttocks. If he draws loli porn, part of the appeal is cuteness. This image, however, is almost exclusively cute. I guess you can argue there are sexual undertones because they're nude, but I don't think adding towels fixes that at all. To the ideal, naive viewer, that first image is just, "Oh they're in a hot spring together! How cute!" but if he saw the DIFFERENCE between the two images, or saw the second image but was told they added the towels, he'd then be aware of the sexuality, even if he wouldn't have found any originally.
Basically I think making this change is far worse in terms of sexualization than just having some kids bathe nude in a hot spring together, which is something that human beings do.

I just got to skim the thread, and I just wanted to say that Reccetear was only big because it really caught on during the big "indie" boom, and it's "unique" premise which looked good on paper amounted to repetitive dungeon crawling and ridiculously simple buy-sell system.

Anyway, my real problem was the localization. "Capitalism, ho!" was my first big problem. I don't know much japanese or even what the japanese was meant to be but it wasn't "capitalism, ho!". I can tell that this translator thought he was hot stuff appealing to his other high-brow buddies.

Then things like "yayifications" was the next big offender. That's really not cute, in any sense. If you're going to make such a butchery of "Yatta!" or what have you, I don't know what to tell you. I think a good localization would have settled for things like "Yeah!" "Alright!" "Woohoo!".
It would have been fine, maybe even great, if had used a cute turn of phrase written from scratch and of course in context. But that's a lot of work, takes a lot of talent, and since all your friends are hyping this game to be the second coming of Christ surfboarding on a wave of other indie games, completely pointless.

In any case, maybe I'm wrong about the localization altogether. Maybe it was nigh perfect, but whatever happened it was shite anyway.
I wanted to post how I felt about that game for a long time though it's been well over a year since I played it.
