Working out, especially lifting, is kind of tiring and hard work. Not really that much of a time-sink, but it's definitely tiring.

I don't think it would be better if Meiling was your workout trainer. She would issue unreasonable workloads fitting of youkai for you. She would push the weights down just so you have to struggle more. She would issue absurd repetitions with little to no time to rest. Sure, she would probably try to motivate you to some degree, but after seeing that you do not reach up to her expectations, she'll just give up on you after you're thoroughly exhausted, and didn't even manage to complete a tiny bit of her workout plan.

Unless she gives you some unholy supplement which gives you an absurd amount of muscle energy, don't do it, /jp/! You'll wreck yourself and be ridiculed by your self-awareness later.

How is it? I've been trying to achieve something like that for a bit, but while I finish my workout with my arms feeling definitely bulkier, it's a fleeting sensation and it doesn't feels well.

As opposed to my legs, I started doing 15 minutes of that stationary workout bike thing daily, and now my legs feel good all the time. Even walking feels good, provided I'm not carrying anything too hard on my back. I really wish I had that feeling on my arms!

Well any exercise is good, but a nice compound lifting routine, like Starting Strength, is really optimal. /fit/ is an awful board, but the wiki they have is genuinely useful.
There's a rush of endorphins after my lifts, which I really enjoy, and tracking numbers every other day keeps me something to do.

I don't really like people either, I just go to the gym when it's empty. Usually during lunchtime works best, it's completely empty save for the trainer, and usually he's chilling by the reception desk having a bite, so I just go to the back of the gym and we forget about each other.

If you know your workout by heart and you know how to operate the machines already, you don't even really need to pay heed to him apart from a greeting. Usually if you're starting out, the workout they give you is so small anyway, the chances of someone showing up are slim.

At least, that's how it goes here. I doubt it's wildly different in some other country, unless Americans secretly love going to the gym right after that sweet, sweet McDonalds meal. That, or the gym is really good so it naturally draws more customers.

Find a gym that works for you. Most people don't pay any mind to you unless you're moving some serious weight, or you're doing it with bad enough form that you're going to injure yourself. I have social anxiety but most people in the gym are pretty nice. The people who lift the heaviest are the friendliest, its only the little kids who go in there to do CURLZ to get that SUMMER BEACH BOD who have something to prove.

Or go in the early morning or dead at night.

I'm pretty biased about stretches as a martial artist so take it with a grain of salt. I always recommend to touch your toes and practice lunges so that you can eventually do the split (open hip one). It certainly helps to detour injury when lifting and running, specifically to the knees which seems to be a problem for most.

Lifting weights can help you improve your posture, strengthen muscles and ligaments, make it less likely to injure yourself by realizing certain movements or sudden efforts, enables you of doing certain task easily (as /fit/ would say: FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH), it helps your health overall, etc.

It's not just a thing about becoming HUGE. And you'll feel good, and look even better.

Not a waste of time at all.

And don't you want to improve your body, as well as your mind so you can become worthy of your waifu?.
