Merlin not being a perverted looking old man is disappointing.

That's just there to tick boxes, along with the colour-blind casting.

Are there even any Welsh actors? It's a fucking King Arthur series and they have no noticeably Welsh people, just blacks and hispanics.

I unironically wanted to believe this but they missed every opportunity.

I think the final nail in the coffin was when they portrayed the whole Guinevere x Lancelot love affair as mind control and one kiss. At least get them into bed together or something, that's not going to scar children just as it didn't in Doctor Who.

I for one enjoy the simple innocence portrayed in a middle-ages fantasy show that doesn't take itself too seriously in contrast to the over-the-edgy grimdark "war is hell" trite that plagues the genre (see game of thrones, spartacus). For me it's come to a point where a clichéd story of a handsome prince saving a fair princess from the evil dragon is breaking the norm.

I'd agree if they were just keeping it simple, but they actively chose to make it family-friendly and politically correct and all that bullshite.

The reason Doctor Who is a great kids' show (deal with it, manchildren) is because it isn't written for kids, it's just written for people. Babies can enjoy it, teenagers can enjoy it, pensioners can enjoy it. The good writers don't dumb things down or adult-ify things, they just write things.
