I love Kosuzu as much as any other guy, but half a year worth of material can't really compare to seven years of tradition and roots in Touhou's golden era. Yet.

Eastern and Little Nature Deity is also pretty low in quality. Not quite as bad as SSIB in general art but probably the worst when it comes to backgrounds. It's like Bleach with all it's white voids. Many pictures also look like unfinished sketches.

In many ways, EaLND seems like a draft version of SaBND. ZUN probably wasn't really sure where he's going with it yet. But it has its charm.

SSiB is a first class troll. People may hate it as much as they won't, I'll always love it. It's a perfect introduction to Touhou and all it stands for. The art is obviously not on par with the other manga, though.

The fact that it has the Touhou name does not magically make it a good manga. At least in the games you still get to dodge beautiful patterns and get to listen to good music. The fact that SSIB looks like it might have a plot that goes somewhere is what makes it so bad. The other manga are basically just slice of life with many mini story arcs that only last 2 chapters at best. Yet SSIB's long plot still has about as little effect on anything as those mini chapters do and the ending feels a lot more anticlimactic because of that. You don't read a plot that spans 300+ pages only to get an everybody laughs ending with zero consequences for anything and nothing changing.

In my opinion, the only reason why anyone reads SSIB is because it has Touhou written on it. If it wasn't for that, no one would give two shits about it. It's not a good manga. Read it if you want to be informed about Touhou canon, skip it if you don't care about canon. It's not like SSIB ever matters for anything besides 1 chapter of Cage in Lunatic Runagate and the Inaba manga.

Also about that Inaba canon thing:

It's been questioned quite often how much ZUN actually cares about the manga and some lines suggests that he does not care enough about them. After all, he said stuff like "I didn't explain the weapons to Aki★Eda so the depiction was super vague (laugh)"

Why would you not explain how stuff looks to your artist? Might mean a lack of communication between artist and ZUN. Does that also mean ZUN doesn't tell his artist all the dialogue or does it mean that the artists often just improvise? Who knows...
