I wanted some proper Edwardian/Victorian clothing (not cosplay, from some family tailors that specialises in them) and everything costs hundreds of £s. A full suit would have cost me thousands. It was crazy.

"Cheap" lolita still costs around $50-100 and if you're not already very good at sewing, handmade attempts don't turn out very well. The style is so elaborate that it's unfortunately not really possible to look good unless you pour a lot of money into it.
