Cyberpunk Gensokyo. How would the factions of modern day Gensokyo transfer over to a sprawling corrupt, metropolis?

>> No.10567794

Shadowrun with the various households/factions as the megacorps? You might also make all of Gensokyo one giant megacity filled with humans, youkai, oni, demons, Celestials, fairies, and so forth all intermingling. Not particularly peacefully, but the conflict would be more socioeconomic than racial, to my mind. And no-one particularly cares when humans go missing.

Probably siding with an Anti-Youkai special unit of Neo-Humanvillage, purging the existence of Youkai in every possible way thanks to technology, killing thousand of innocent people in order to remain peace and harmony.
Filled with drugs that lower my own inhibitions so its ensured I actually pull the drigger in order to purge the youkai in front of me, no matter how cute and small she is.

Regretting everyday what monster I've become, my thoughts and instability lure even more youkai towards me and my unit, leaving Neo-Humanvillage in a battlefield between Youkai and Anti-Youkai Soldiers.

I don't think they'd mingle too freely in general. In fact, I imagine there would also be some areas that are just filthy and largely rundown as certain elements, faeries in particular, try and gather their older sensibilities in such an intimidating reality. Gensokyo would probably have to expand, I think.

>> No.10567812

>>10567806
I was thinking they'd mingle just because of increasing population density. They'd basically be forced to mingle, whether they wanted to or not, and since actually fighting isn't really in anyone's interests they'd just sort of get along with this bubbling discontentment underneath the surface.

I'd feel bad for the fairies, though. What elements of nature are there for them?

>> No.10567816

>>10567812
Being creations of nature, I imagine that the new environment would distort them in turn. It gives me an image of a violent punk Cirno, instead of her current childish whimsical nature.

Continuing from the other thread, what would you guys like to see in a Touhou quest thread?

>> No.10567899

Perhaps spirits become A.I, that get sent to "Higan", or a massive SSD.

Shikieiki decides whether the AIs are "innocent", in which they're placed into clone bodies, and get off scot-free

If she declares the AI"guilty", then they get placed into a simple menial task drone, condemned to an eternity of doing the same thing over and over again.

Of course, you could always buy your innocence.

>>10567812
I'd imagine that lakes would and streams would still be around, but heavily polluted. In turn, the faeries are almost always sick and frail.

What about something before Reimu becoming the shrine maiden? So arguments would have to be settled with good ole' fisticuffs rather than danmaku.

But I feel like that takes away from much of 2hu's charm.

Pretty sure you can still settle things with fisticuffs even with Reimu around, you just aren't abiding by the spell card system rules. Or write spell card that involve punching people.

I like to think that Shikieiki is the one thing that one be "uncorruptable", if that can even exist. For her to become corrupt isn't symptomatic of a problem with Gensokyo, or of the world; it signals that the very order of existence has become warped and decayed. Her existence implies some sort of Buddhist cosmology, and she, as one of the Yamas, is ordained or appointed by the Powers that Be. If she becomes corrupt, the whole universe has.

>> No.10568058

If /tg/ doesn't like waifufaggotry, why have I been seeing KS quest threads there for months? And Bromont relocated his Bizarre Slime threads there after the mods chased him out of /a/.

>> No.10568070

>>10568058
It would be more accurate to say that /tg/ used to dislike waifufaggotry. The /a/ mods decided, for whatever god-knows reason, that CYOA threads were not related to /a/ any more, and shunted them all over to /tg/. /tg/ had a wave of /a/ sweep over it, brought by the CYOA quests, so now enough people like waifus that threads about it are semi-regular. A number of people still object, of course, but now the disdain is no longer universal.

Ah, so perhaps she's the only Yama who can't be bought off?

And if we're still thinking of quest ideas, why not just a cyberpunk touhou quest?

>> No.10568167

>>10568142
It's not a question of her being the only Yama who can't be bought off; powerful though she may be, she's not unique. It's just that she represents an absolute and irrevocable moral order, and metes out judgement according to said. For her to become corrupt signals that the entire system by which souls are judged has become corrupt, which in turn signals the dissolution of the very cosmic order that governs reality. Which'd be a great quest-hook, by the by, but it's something that echos across the universe, preceding birth and tainting death, a rot at the core of the cyclical order of reality. I mean that she is beyond the scope of a cyberpunk Gensokyo. The symbolism and imagery would change, but the system would remain the same.

>> No.10568203

This.

Shikieiki is canonically the strongest character shown in touhou thus far. She's literally a league higher than everybody else because she's a part of the ultimate law governing all reality. She's not really a part of Gensokyo, more she's interacting with Gensokyo time to time.

That mean, for Shikeiki to become corrupt, it's not a Gensokyo related problem anymore: it become a multiversal problem.

Reimu's the only one without cybernetic enhancements and she goes around fucking people up.

>> No.10570268

I wonder how the Yakumos would translate over. Obviously, they would be the megacorp ruling Gensokyo with an iron fist.

But I'd like to think that Yukari would be willing to cooperate with Eldritch terror, and other morally dubious acts to keep it that way.

>> No.10570407

Personally, I believe that it would be better to focus less on Shadowrun-style mixtures of magic and technology, and move closer to character-driven, dystopic setting.

For example, Gensokyo as a sovereign space-station ruled by the Mayohiga corporation, owned by the enigmatic and capricious Yukari, most often represented by her aide, Ran.

Reimu is a troubleshooter, Yukari's trusted retainer who mostly stays out of the way, but in a crisis exercises the power of life of death over every inhabitant.

But, there are more megacorps around. For example, the Eientei biotech conglomerate, seeking asylum from Lunar authorities for the blackest of black deeds, exemplified in the HOURAI exhuman augments and creation of new subhuman servitor species.

The actual viewpoint characters would be where the punk comes in.

Aya is an independent journalist. Medicine could be a discarded biomorph, out to free other shackled intelligences from their bondage. Marisa, a freelance hacker and thief, out to get the best hard- and software to be had. Reisen, a veteran of Lunar combat, manumissed and trying to make her way in the world.

With nanomachines, living tentacles and more recently, talking robot dogs.

I had an idea for this.

Sometime in the distant future, barrier falls and a city is rapidly built ontop of Gensokyo because 'holy fuck look at all of this cool shit'.

Characters have to readapt to a rapidly transforming way of life in the best way they can, whether it means maintaining a highclass, lavish lifestyle or even asserting a position of power in the urban, neon-lit streets.

Perhaps Eientei runs a casino with an underground black market or hired killing business? Lucky Rabbit Casino?

Yukari might be a shoe-in for running a corporation, SDM might be a very rich house with a hand in many dark places (Also black market fun, etc.)

>>10571654
Adding onto this with some further thoughts, 'incidents' could be related to corporate espionage, magic powers wouldn't be replaced or otherwise gone; I think it would remove the character's unique-ness too much. However, that doesn't mean technology does not play a big part in conflict and additions to a character's arsenal. I also imagine that the 'master-minds' would be scheming more than ever.

All in all this would probably be a very exciting setting to be made into a game.

I think she wouldn't have much trouble in making the hourai elixir, seeing as she already made it for the Princess and herself (As well as Mokou).

I'm sort of thinking from a 'What if Gensokyo became Cyberpunk' as opposed to 'Gensokyo already Cyberpunk' stance though.

In any event, I think that Eientei may want to keep a semi isolationist state, hence the Casino. Tewi can keep track of that whilst Eirin and Kaguya run everything behind the scenes. As for Reisen? Depending on how one would rather see Eientei's 'Underground' work out she could keep her original position as bodyguard and student, or even stem out as a hired killer or anything of the like.
