Place for discussing Yume Nikki, RPGMaker games (eg. Ib, Witch's House, Mad Father etc.) and dreams.

>> No.10562613

Witches House and Mad Father were made with Wolf RPG editor.

>> No.10562631

>>10562613
Actually, The Witch's House was made in RPGMaker VX, but it's true that Mad Father was made with Wolf RPG editor.
The OP should be amended next time to include both.

How about a train horror game with MSPaint portraits?

.flow is a good game too.

I really like Yume 2kki. Despite what people say about it being random and nonsensical, it feels the most complete.
Are there any good exploring games (not necessarily YN fangames) out there? I know there's a whole wiki for YN fangames, and I've tried the usual suspects, but otherwise, many of them are lacking content.

Have you tried Space Funeral?

>> No.10563078

.Flow and 2kki are the only fangames worth playing honestly.

The people who made them could have spent their time making the next big thing instead of wasting their time on this concept that nobody will take seriously because it's a fangame.

Wasn't there a sequel out or something?
I really liked Space Funeral.

Can you actually beat Yume Nikki?

>> No.10571115

>>10571109
It has an ending, if that's what you mean.

Collect all the effects, dump them all in the hub area.

Are there any more games with no explicit purpose? I just like walking around and stuff.

If collecting all the effects and seeing the ending counts as 'beating' Yume Nikki, then sure.

There're a lot of Yume Nikki fangames which follow the same principle of exploration and finding effects etc.
Some are very well made and stand out from the pile, such as .flow, lcd dem and Yume 2kki.
Answered Prayers is another nice one, although it is less developed.
You can always try LSD dream emulator if you're looking for something which isn't RPGmaker or Wolf RPG editor.

To add to this, it doesn't necessarily have to be the same style of game or even a regular RPG. I liked Elona, and I also enjoyed Tokimeki Memorial (despite my poor Nihongo).

Someone on /jp/ once suggested someone make a game like Tokimeki Memorial but with a Pokémon-style overworld. Something like that would be amazing.

LSD for ps1, xenon's game called Trip and space engine are all I can think of off the top of my head, but there are more.

Thanks, I'll give these a shot. I generally stay away from fan games. I don't know what it is, but I generally don't enjoy derivative works unless they're part of some bigger fan mythos (like the Cthulhu Mythos or Touhou). I've heard good things about these though, so maybe they're worth a try.

I remember /x/ having a lot of threads about this. It looked interesting. I'll give it a go.

Also, check out Knytt Underground, and the previous games if you like that one. There's goals and dialogue and quests and stuff, but really the major focus of the game is exploring the (respectably big) world on your own.

Yes, I think it's unfortunate that there is an underlining stigma with playing fangames, even though some of the games produced can very well stand on their own as well crafted, good games.
In the end, it's up to the person whether they're curious enough to give them a look in.

I played LSD Dream Emulator, it's kind of interesting the first time through when you have no clue what's going to happen next but there isn't much to it other than that and after your first round of it you probably won't have any interest in it because then it just becomes boring and very predictable.
