Stop trying to make Girls Generation (SNSD) into the Korean AKB48 when it isnt even close.

1) SNSD = Wholesome family friendly girls that are omnipresent in all aspects of the Korean entertainment industry.

2) AKB48 = Only appeals to otaku and wota. The entire Japanese entertainment industry are ashamed of their 'success'

Korea celebrates Girls Generation/SNSD's 'success'. Here is Seohyun - one of the members of Girls Generation - with Ban-Ki Moon (Secretary General of the UN)

SNSD regularly gets appointed by the government of Korea as tourism ambassadors and Korea used SNSD in the tourism advertisements/brochures.

Although AKB48 is the #1 music act in Japan as measured by sales, nothing like that happens with them.

That's a function of South Korea's putting a huge focus on promoting its media internationally. Sure, SNSD is wildly more popular than AKB worldwide, but AKB shows up on more domestic TV. Japan does have that half-assed Cool Japan movement, but it's really not comparable.

If AKB48 was a family-friendly music act, you dont think Japan would use them and promote them? But they arent and AKB48 sells sex. I have absolutely no problem with this but that is their image.

And that is why the Japanese are wary of them. I didnt see the same apprehension when girl groups like Morning Musume were popular.

>> No.10550477

>>10550419
SNSD is no less sex centric than AKB48. It's just that AKB48 looks like little girls and dress in a way that gives pedo impressions in the west. Look at >>10550220 even, White dominated clothing (maidenly) vs Black (sluts that the American dog wants to fuck). Can be seen in their videos even more. It's kind of like, that's why they can send them around, it's acceptable by our standards, kinda like Marilyn Monroe and JFK. We think grown sluts are cool in the West.

Japan has a strong as fuck economy anyway. They don't give two shits about promoting their entertainment industry outside the country. They also have a very different culture from Korea when it comes to business and tourism, and are more isolationist in both. For instance, their cell phone industries kept the phones closed off from the rest of the world for years (which has actually left them behind...) vs Samsung taking over the industry from Korea. Or half their video game developers refusing to develop for Xbox, dogmatically supporting Sony. Cool Japan is an afterthought from the mind of some bureaucrat that isn't getting support from anyone major.

Second Album released in Japan (2012): 186k units

1st Single: 150k
2nd Single: 205k

Japan has countless family-friendly acts that also aren't promoted by the government, but we've been over why that is.

But even if they wanted to it wouldn't matter. What's the point of "an idol you can meet" if you'll never see one of her theater performances? What's the point of having an oshimen if you don't even speak Japanese? It would be a colossal waste of time and money for Tokyo to promote AKB48 abroad.

How isnt SNSD popular in Japan? Or nobody gives a shit about them when :

Girls Generation Revenue (Oricon)
=========
2011) #5 ranking with $56 Million in music sales
2012) #7 ranking with $46 Million in music sales

2 Concert Tours in Japan with this current one being their biggest one with 20 concert dates which if they sold out all venues, they would have close to 300k people attending.

Their 5th single was a remake (Oh!) and their 6th single (Flower Power) was released 1 week before their 2nd album was released. There was no reason for fans to buy a $18 single when a $30 album which included the Flower Power single was going to be on the album.

Not that I am disagreeing with you that interest in kpop is slowing tremendous in Japan (because it is) but just putting some context to the #'s you posted.

But it's not like the album sold well either. 186k for their second album when their first was 871k. That is a sales decline of like 460%. If that isn't plummeting popularity I don't know what is. You can spin it however you want. They've already reached their peak and have been declining every release.

>2 Concert Tours in Japan with this current one being their biggest one with 20 concert dates which if they sold out all venues, they would have close to 300k people attending.

That 871k album has charted for 1.8 years (released May 2011) now and also includes a repackage album which included 'Time Machine'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Machine_(Girls%27_Generation_song)
Before the repackage album, the sales of their 1st Japanese album was at around 500k. Again not disagreeing that the sales of their 2nd album will come in much lower but just giving some context to your comparisons.

>Why do you think they are doing this tour?
To make money. I dont know what 'loss' you are talking about.

>And considering a lot of those venues have capacities of like, 5~10k seats
And some venues have capacities of over 25k like the Saitama Super Arena. Still doesnt change that if all the venues sellout for those 20 concerts would equal close to 300,000 people.

Here is my problem with you - you said SNSD isnt popular in Japan even with the sale numbers showing them in the TOP 10 in sales in Japan for the last 2 years. You can say SNSD's popularity is declining but to say they were never popular or arent popular is just stupidity.

>Being #5 and #7 in total sales for all music artists in 2011 and 2012 isnt popular?
It isn't really relevant when we are talking about current popularity.
Saying they were #5 in 2011? Great. All that means is they were relatively popularity in 2011.
#7 in 2012? That's mostly thanks to the first half of 2012, because their first album was still selling. If you want to use sales numbers to determine popularity, then use their most recent releases, and you see the obvious trend.
What number do you think they will be at for this year? Significantly lower than 2012 going by their recent numbers.

>That 871k album has charted for 1.8 years (released May 2011)
Cool. It still sold 4x in its first month what their latest album did in its first month. I don't need any "context" to know their latest album sold awfully. If the latest AKB release sold 4x less than the previous one, people would be declaring AKB dead. I don't see why SNSD would be any different.

>And some venues have capacities of over 25k like the Saitama Super Arena.
You mean only that venue.

>Still doesnt change that if all the venues sellout for those 20 concerts would equal close to 300,000 people.
Not really. That assumes they are using the max capacity of each venue. For example a venue could have 10k seats, but they could only sell 5k tickets to say it was "sold out". Their first tour, which had 14 venues, sold had a total of 140,000 people. That was when they were more popular too. You honestly think that with 6 more venues they will jump to 300k?

>you said SNSD isnt popular in Japan even with the sale numbers showing them in the TOP 10 in sales in Japan for the last 2 years.
I'm saying they aren't popular now. At least not nearly as popular as stinky koreans seem to try to make them out to be. I see them say "oh SNSD bigger than AKB nida!" or talk about how they are taking Japan by storm, or are the number one group, etc etc etc.

Also Moot for the love of fucking god please fix noko+sage. I can't take it easy like this.
