And then she showed up at the little shack where he was drinking with his buddies outside Phoenix Arizona, and they got married a while later.
They were a married construction worker duo for about ten years before they decided to have me. Then about five years later, she realized my dad was an alcoholic, reluctantly left him, and moved from the middle of Oklahoma to the middle of Kansas, based on having enjoyed visiting a fair there.
Then she got three part time jobs until she got hired by the state to do investigative and ambassadorial agricultural regulatory stuff. she basically gets to talk to farmers, take samples, walk around pasture and fields, take pictures, and then write reports.
My dad got more sober, and has been vaguely around, and on pretty good terms with my mom. I get the sensation that he feels he hasn't done well by me, and tries to make up for it, which makes me feel like shit.
