I think this was the first "real" anime I ever watched. I saw the tape in Blockbuster's video and saw the pix of the hot naked anime chics and thought fuck yeah I wanna watch this!

After that I was pretty much otaku for life, other earlier 90s stuff include: Ninja Scroll, Devil Hunter Yoko, Slayers, Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, Tekkaman Blade.

I watched Ninja Scroll and Wings of Mayonnaise on YTV or Teletoon or something when I was about 12 years old. Thanks, Canadian television. Watching extreme gore and rape at 12 is always good.

I watched NGE when I was an adult and it was just sweet robot fights with a bunch of pointless crap whenever they weren't fighting. Like every other robot show ever. Ending of it was, well I was familiar with Bones by then so it didn't have the effect on me it probably did on those who watched it when it was new.
