I'm with a friend and we're having a problem with setting up a game of Phantasmagoria of Flower View. We've connected an Ethernet between our laptops, opened a port. We set up our IP's and chosen port over the adonise client, but the game just seems to freeze as we set up over the network, Youkai vs Youkai. Did we miss a step along the way? Please advise.

Check both of you are using the same adonise version (and also that not one is using adonis.exe and the other adonise.exe).

Check that both have 1.50a patch of the game.

Check you both have a score.dat with all the characters unlocked.

Check you deleted all pictures depicting Remiria Ojou-sama from any storage devices you own.

Check your windows/antivirus firewall. I had to disable NOD's firewall to make it work under win7.
And yes, nod. In the end you don't need anything else besides common sense to keep free from viruses.
