Why is Japan's aging population so focused on highschool? Aren't most otaku in their 20s->30s anyway?

Escapism.

Because high school romance is young and full of promise, and office romance a shit.

Why is it that characters in games/anime either act like 30 year olds or 11 year olds?

Do you think all the people around you in high school that were dating stayed together or something?

>Those were the only part of a Jap life that were remotely enjoyable.

But that's not true, college is a lot more relaxing in Japan than high school.

No but in the 2D world they don't act like most highschoolers anyways.

Most anime features clothing that they would have worn in school in the 80s, so probably older than that.

>> No.10441740

Otaku are not the majority of Japan's population. The core, consistent buyers of Anime, Manga, VNs etc are in the minority.

Please refrain your question to "Why are Otaku so focused..."

Now if you want a more general view of Japanese media try watching NHK, I think that's a more comprehensive variety of interests

High school is generally a place where the majority pass trough. Choosing that over say College simply give the audience a potentially bigger chance to relate to the setting. Also most Japanese people have a very stressful time during their high school years and may want to relive that time in a better way.

Because high school is a very special place. I realized this afterwards, for better or worse.

There's really no other part of your life that is comparable. You're more or less at the peak of your physical and mental ability and you can do whatever you want. The few hours you have to attend and work for school pale in comparison to any job. It's the only place in life where romance or friendship can realistically be everything you have to worry about.

>> No.10441987

>>10441978
What?
I had to go from 8 to 5 everyday in High school and homework upon that. It was way more busy than any work I've ever had.

>> No.10441999 [DELETED]

>>10441987
Where did you go to school? Even at my 'peak' of mandatory education at 18/19, the worst schedule went from 8am to 3pm with plenty of small and big breaks between lessons.

And even given that, you can be a total slacker and still make it. You don't even have to be particularly smart, you can just cruise by with (sub-)mediocre grades without a care in the world.

And again, my point was that it was realistic in a story for high schoolers to focus entirely on stuff that is related to the plot.

>> No.10442033

The amount of elementary series still pales in comparison to the amount of high school series.

They could easily have a pseudo-loli college student like they did in Quartette or have a genius child college student like Becky from Pani Poni. If you wanted to make the average guy happy, it seems to make more sense to have the average girl be an adult instead of a high school girl.
