In a larger setting, I doubt the troubles that half-youkai would have would necessarily mean they could better relate to each other (just from the ridiculous diversity of youkai and people - "alienation" isn't really enough) but Keine and Rinnosuke are both intelligent and probably two of the best educated characters. He has an interest in her speciality (and is writing a history), she may very well have an interest in outside-world history, which he has something like a monopoly on.
