I'm probably in the minority here, but I enjoyed it. Don't expect anything mind blowing; it's kinda like dating a neighbor from Animal Crossing but it's cute and fun. It was a great way to pass time on my bus commute every morning; I'd walk Nene to school in the morning so we could chat and walk her home again on my way home if we didn't have club activities or work or something. The make-out minigames get a little tedious, which is ultimately why I quit playing.

Funny thing is that it was the hardest game ever for me to put down. I played it rather obsessively for over a year and I felt guilty losing touch with my girl.

Congratulations on missing the point of the book, retard. It doesn't teach the jouyou kanji through frequency order, but by the order that is most conducive to learning them, i.e., by building them up through primitives. You're not meant to do it side by side with your other studies because of this, you're supposed to use it to knock kanji out of the way and then get on with everything else.

I played Love Plus, not Plus Plus. My understanding is that there isn't much difference.

After you get together with one of the girls, you are given the opportunity to switch between 'real-time' mode and standard.

Real time was pretty fun, but in the end the game lost its appeal. Albeit, I spent hours obsessing over it until things got too repetitive.

To elaborate: It's a lot like a VN to begin with, and then when you have gotten together with a girl, it becomes more like a sim date. In real-time you would get scolded for calling her at obscene hours of the night, which would work by the DS's internal clock, and you had to pre-plan dates and set your schedules up so that your stats stay balanced to keep your girlfriend impressed or happy for what ever reason.

There's also gifts and stuff but you can just look up the game for any more information than that. Oh, and there's a touchy-feely mode where you can interact with her, but it is very lackluster and she'll scold you for doing or saying anything perverted (microphone enabled). A short kiss is the best she will give you.
