Talking about JKT48 ...
The only amazing thing is how they are accepted as a sister group outside Japan... how sad that some people who don't follow the story accused them of plagiarizing the AKB idol concept...

Since this one is outside Japan, with a different cultural background, they can't be fully follow AKB or their Japanese sisters, especially in portraying as models... I believe gravure works won't work that well in the community, I mean like, even celebrities wearing swimsuits in pools or beaches (which is supposed to be normal) can be portrayed as national scandals once the photos go through the internet... There are some invisible "lines" within the community or more likely, within certain group of people. If JKT48 somehow crossed the "line", then those certain groups (generally on the basis of anti-pornography) will try to shut the whole concept of this idol group for "the sake of the young generations' future in the county".

But, so far, it's not that bad to see them working their way through the world of idoling, as we know how AKB did years ago... Looking forward on their breakthrough and first single... Their path should be a bit smoother since AKB and sisters are already famous in Indonesia and they're having a great amount of fans support...

The 16 years old Pan Meijun which Indonesian name is Sonya (Sonya Pandarmawan) told CNA that her father is an American Taiwanese married to an Indonesian mother. After the marriage, her parents settled in Indonesia. Pan Meijun is the only JKT48 member capable in speaking Chinese and she hopes that someday, JKT48 could have a performance in Taiwan as well as getting a lot of Taiwanese friends.

Mayuyu was the first person I noticed in AKB48. I don't think she's cute though, I think she's more beautiful than cute. Of all the faces, she'd always stand out. Jurina's always been the type that's more mature than her age, so I don't think she's the type that people with such preferences like generally. Though I'm personally not lolicon so maybe I just don't understand their taste, but there's many other things people like Jurina at least.

In general a lot of young members (HKT for example) are fresh and have a lot of raw potential. Comparing them to girls like the stagnated AKB undergirls or not-so-talented team 4, they're a lot more exciting to follow. That's what I like HKT girls (including Sakura) for, and I look forward to them getting older and realising all that potential.

The only KPop group really taking off in Japan was KARA and pretty much nobody else. All the other bands that were made to debut there in the last years were forgotten as quickly as they came in.
I wonder what they were even trying to accomplish with that, but one sure thing is that they managed to fool a few uninformed reporters into thinking that there was a "HUGE demand fo KPop in Japan" because "look at how many Korean bands are debuting this month". Strangely enough, those same people never wrote any follow-up article about how well any of them was doing in Japan.

Not really. AKB does owe a lot of their sales to handshakes etc., but most other idol groups employ similar tactics and still sell less than AKB solo artists. You can only say they sell more because of it in comparison to musicians who don't employ these tactics, but they still sell over 10x what most other idol groups ever do while selling handshakes, and sometimes having even better bonuses than AKB, so eh.

As for voting coupons, generally elections singles don't sell that much better than other ones. In their respective years, River beat Namida Surprise, HebiRote and Beginner beat Shushu, Furage beat EbiKachu, so 2012 was the first year when the election single sold the best. It's hard to see how it could be a huge competitive advantage, among idol sales tactics anyway, if election singles don't even beat their other singles in most years.
