When I first began to practice Aikido, I told everyone I met "You should practice it too!"

However, I soon realized that even if a person is physically capable of performing aikido techniques, if their mind is not of one spirit, they will have little success.

Train your mind guys, then your body.

>> No.10252678

what, I just 'learned' and 'copied' someone's aikido. No spirit or other thingamajig going around. Just learn basic physics.

Fixed your post for you, aikido is shit. Learn judo if you want to throw people for real.

Not you again. I swore you were banned.
I still remember that time when you talked about how you were in the club with friends, outside for the first time in 4months(not counting Aikido practice), and a girl was grinding with you. Then a big black dude pushed you away as the girl grinded with him. You told him to move. He said "Fuck off" and you then proceeded to break his arm as he ran away from you. Everyone avoided you the rest of the night you said.

Aikido is a joke in the maritial art community and it was never meant to be brought to the Olympics, like the Japanese masters said. Even then many Japanese think it isn't even an effective fighting style.

Have you ever been in love?

I haven't. Not with another human being at least. After dedicating my mind and spirit to Aikido I haven't found much room for anything else.

Sure I've been on dates before with beautiful women, but whenever they find out that I am a student of the world's strongest martial art, the dinner always ends there. They sometimes even offer to pay, in fear of their lives.

I believe you shouldn't underestimate Aikido. Now I know you may be thinking, "Why take a weakling martial art like Aikido seriously when I am learning Kendo?" I can see why you would think that, how can a peaceful martial arts like Aikido beat a powerful one like Kendo?

Well, I have a story to share with you.

Years ago, I was a Kendoka, I thought I was the toughest kid in high school, I would pick fights, and kick ass. I was full of hate, until I picked a fight with the wrong dude. He was a Japanese exchange student, I still remember his name, Noboru Takeda.

I picked on him because of his hilarious and thick Japanese accent. I told him I was going to beat him so hard, he would go back to China(Yeah, I was a little racist prick.), he never said anything back, made me wanted to kick his ass even harder.

Well, here comes the fight. I threw men and do strikes, he dodged them like I was a mere white belt. I was tiring out and he knew, I saw the smirk on his face that made me raged hard. I put all my strength in one amazing tsuki, and he grabbed past it to my wrist and threw me over. My back smacked on the hard cement ground, and I was knocked out for who knows how long.

When I woke up I was in the school infirmary, I asked the nurse who brought me here, and you guessed it, Noboru Takeda. The next day, he wasn't at school, he was back in Japan, and I never got to thank him, for saving my life and showing me the light. I soon learned that he was an Aikidoka and have been practicing Aikido ever since to show my thanks to him.

Why must people always be so long winded and mysterious.
When people practice martial arts and such, they learn to relax and calmly focus on the big picture, becoming keenly aware of their surroundings. Shoving their emotions and impatience aside. And such. That is obvious, of course.

But most people, especially practitioners, always insist on romanticizing that and go all like "be one with the heavens and the earth" and shit.
Stupid.

No, Judo has a wide variety of techniques, but it's combat philosophy is sports-tier.

Learn Jujutsu for the fundamentals and because it isn't a fucking sport, then judo, then BJJ, then realize you dun goofed, go back in time, and learn either savate or karate then disarms then jujutsu, and learn muai thai after judo.

And if you really want to know your shit you'll add gymnastics and/or freerunning before karate or savate and you'll start weapons training after BJJ.

aikido between judo and muai thai or karate/savate and jujutsu couldn't hurt either.

I was also wondering this. Back when I was way younger I dropped out of a shitty martial arts class where the idea was to grab a dudes arm mid punch and twist it all over the place.

Also, I was disgusted that they let some people get high belts when they were really, REALLY out of shape, fat and/or weak. I wouldn't mind, but it really showed since they couldn't do the techniques properly due to this.

Muay Thai involves clinches but its much more well known for the fact that is it pretty god damn brutal with strikes.

It is basically kick boxing. Elbows, punches, kicks, knees, everything is fair game.

>> No.10252985

>>10252974
But does Muay Thai teach you how to punch without getting into faggy locks and shit?
There isn't much point in learning how to strike hard if some faggot is going to start trying to snap your arm backwards, you're better off just kicking him in the dick if you don't know how to avoid it.

Where you learn to punch is mostly unimportant in bypassing that defense. It's up to you to either be able to throw a straight punch too fast for him to react to it in that way, or to ruin his rhythm so that he isn't able to defend in the first place, whether that be through a feint, or something more complex.

If the punch you're taught is too slow, you're either doing it wrong, or you'll want to modify it, or seek instruction elsewhere.

If you're looking to ruin someone's rhythm, you'll have to learn it yourself. You can be taught different ways to disrupt their rhythm, but actually being able to disrupt it isn't something you can learn through words, you have to learn it in sparring and fighting.

Depends on what you mean by "real world combat", too.

Like, you couldn't find ANYTHING more effective for crippling an attacker than soft-military (like Krav Maga) or actual military techniques; the problem is that society doesn't look kindly on someone who uses them.

Mind you, if it was a choice between having my head kicked in for 5 minutes or gouging out the other guy's eyes... yeah, I know what I'm doing in a desperate situation.

Also, don't underestimate the "groin-kick-and-400m-sprint" option.

>> No.10253560

>>10253550
Yes, if you ever get into a real world fight, there is a very real chance that you will die. Your first option should always be to flee, but if that isn't possible you should attempt to disable to attacker as quickly as possible using the most effective means available.

I attended aikido for about half a year (lost job & got too expensive after that).

Didn't learn how to beat a guy's ass or anything, but I like to think it made me a bit more level-headed.

Also, our sensei was just... he was like a giant oak tree.
Warm, friendly, tall.
Then you go to grab him, and his hands lock around your wrists with an iron grip, he makes you lose all balance, and next thing you're tumbling in whatever direction he wants you to.
It's both downright gentle and also absolutely terrifying to learn just how much further he's pushed his understanding of the human body than you.

>> No.10256399

Strange paradox of the day: It seems that the people that stay in aikido for a long period of time are the ones with the most intense desire to be able to do magical aikido like they see the highest ranked people do. However, as you progress, your ability to do magic seems to be inversely related to your desire to do magic. Put another way, in order to be able to do magic aiki you have to lose the desire to do it.

>> No.10256402

I can remember times when I’ve seen aikido masters doing aiki that is indistinguishable from magic. I’ve seen many other very, very good aikido masters, but so far as I can remember I’ve only ever seen magical aiki from about two of them. There have been many times that I’ve seen their magical aiki and said to myself, “Wow, I want to be able to do THAT.” Funny thing is, trying to do those magical effects is not aiki. Those guys are able to do the magic because they live the aiki. They have so internalized the aiki principles that those magical effects occur around them more often than around others.

>> No.10256404

What does it mean to internalize aiki? Look at what the word aiki means. Ai has something to do with harmony and ki has something to do with energy. Often aiki is translated as something like “coordinated energy” but lately I have preferred to translate aikido as "the art of making peace with the energy in the world." People who are able to do the magical aiki effects are able to make peace with the things going on in the world. They have reduced their desire to impose their will on a situation so they are able to move around with uke and live with the results. They are at peace with the energy around them.
.
And that’s real, magical aiki – being able to move so that you can live with uke’s actions.
