You know, I kinda feel bad for Romero. Every time he's mentioned, this and Daikatana inevitably come up, and that game was the lowest point of his career. I'm pretty sure he himself has said that he regrets that daikatana commercial ever being made.

Romero was always a loose cannon with a gigantic ego. You can't really complain about stuff like this when you make such a declaration.

That being said, it's a shame what happened to him. He is (was?) undeniable one the most talented people in the industry. Too bad he has no sense for boring things like disciplin and getting shit actually done.
