Prolonged loneliness can transform the brain to make you more antisocial

>Prolonged loneliness can affect transform the brain in a way that makes those who suffer it less able to relate to others, a new study suggests.

>Research showed that animals kept in isolation for long periods produce less myelin - white matter - in parts of their brain crucial for complex emotional behaviour.

>The findings from the University at Buffalo and Mt Sinai School of Medicine shed new light on the brain's ability to adapt to environmental changes - a phenomenon known as brain plasticity.

>In an experiment, adult mice - normally social animals - were isolated for eight weeks to induce a depressive-like state, before being introduced to a mouse they hadn't met before.

>While mice are normally highly motivated to be social, those who had been socially isolated did not show any interest in interacting with the new mouse, a typical model of social avoidance and withdrawal.

But Anon, how can one be lonely with the Internet?
None of us are actually alone here, right?
You just need to abandon the concept of a physical presence being necessary to combat loneliness.

I'm surprised to hear that this is new research. I guess that brain stuff really is difficult.

This pretty much sums up every single "X brain function may be the cause of (insert "mental illness" or undesirable part of perceiving existence here) hypothesis ever made.

If it's not science, it's guessing. That's why everything has to be researched. The fact that this happened over 60 years after inventing the atomic bomb tells a lot about people's priorities.

>If it's not science, it's guessing.

I think people who put too much faith in science are more retarded than people who put faith in religion.

It's to the point now where you can't say anything without some faggot butting in and saying "Well you don't have X degree and they do, so everything you say is completely disregarded and worthless. Because "science's" generally accepted doctrines are always right and people are always wrong next to them no matter what."

You could tell these people that the ice is cold, and if they didn't personally believe it was, they would bring up that argument just to be able to say what you're saying is nothing but the rants of a stupid crazy man.
