Who's all taking the JLPT next Sunday? I'm taking the JLPT 4 and have no idea what to expect. I've been studying ~5 hours a week for 18 months so I think I'll be ok.

Anybody on /jp taken the JLPT yet?

>> No.10120812

I thought they were organized into N levels now, from N5 to N1.

Anyway, it's not worth your time and money unless you're taking the N1 test and have some definite plan for using it.

>> No.10120833

BAHAHAHA the highest level of JLPT is equivalent to reading and writing ability of a Japanese 5 year old. Sorry to make you feel bad but thats the truth.

>> No.10120842

Whats the point in even taking the jlpt4 test? Thats like paying to to take a test aimed at first graders, nobody will care you have it.

>> No.10120844

I'm just skipping the N5. I was a self learner so I've never even taken a formal japanese test.

>>10120833
make it 15 at least, then we can agree

N5 here.

Is it actually useful for anything but your CV?

This.
If you're going to work in japan (why would you?) go ahead, if you want to work as a translator it's not enough anyway.
And N4 after 18 months? Wow.

My plan right now is to just wait a year or two and go straight for N2 (or N1, depending).

It's a two hour drive to the nearest location, and I feel like studying for the test would take time away from studying Japanese, which is more important to me right now.

>> No.10120894

If you are not taking N2 or N1 don't bother. Any research into this subject will show you this is not just a /jp/ thing, but a census from translators and people who have found work and passed the test.

same situation as you except I'm lame and just doing the N4. I could probably pass the N3. I know most of the vocab

Doesn't taking the test cost money?
Why would you waste your time and money on the worthless N5/N4 test.
Study and take the N1 test or don't go at all.

did anybody here even take the JLPT? What the hell is even on it

This. If you can enjoy the media you want, why does it matter?

>> No.10120996

>>10120967
It's mostly kanji and a bit of grammar in the form of multiple choice.
And some listening section (also multiple choice)

>> No.10121007

Why bother? The test of your skills is whether or not you can enjoy the media you want.

I could probably pass N5 and N4 now but I see no point on wasting money on these joke certificates.

N1 level by 2015 would be good, I'm taking it easy in the meantime.

I don't even care about spending $50 to take the test. I'm just curious as to how it is. Also then I can eventually go into the N2 knowing what to expect.

I'm sure you'll feel good If you pass anyway, so godspeed anon.

It's $15 to take the test here... Taking the N4 next week and really nervous about it.

I need at least JLPT N3 to be accepted in the exchange program I'm aiming for, but the closest place it will be held is almost 1000 km from where I live.
I'll do it next year (and for that reason I'll do my reps tomorrow)

You know you can find all the tests from past years for download online to see how they are, right?

I'm taking lv 2, trying to study at the moment but I always end up playing games instead orz
But....but....they are in japanese so that counts....right?

Don't waste time on N4/N5.
I got full marks for them and the questions look like they are made for a 5 years old.

How difficult is N1?

Would someone who is lazy to pick up a textbook but is able to play games and read eroges with a dictionary, possibly pass the test?

No, try getting a book written in japanese and you'll see the japanese used there is way more difficult than the one used on most games. Not even Zun's weird japanese can make you good for N1 lol

>> No.10127879

>>10127023
I thought the same last year. Then, I failed it by two points because I didn't have enough time for some questions from the reading part. I'm taking it again this Sunday, so I'm reviewing less frequent kanji and grammatical patterns now.

Good luck everyone, including me! w

>> No.10127919

How difficult is the new N3 test? I know way more than N4-5, but way less than N1-2 and honestly don't care enough about Japanese to get on that level.

>> No.10128078

>>10120833
Hm, let me take a look at some N1 vocabulary

>母校
>開拓
>建前

Shit, Japanese 5 year olds know words like that? I don't even understand 母校 after looking it up in a Japanese - English dictionary.

>> No.10131214

really? i thought exchange programs prefered you didnt have any japanese skill?
i know its N2 to actually apply to a japanese university..
