Japan should stop celebrating Christmas Halloween and Valentines day, they aren't even Japanese holidays.

>> No.10120472

tru dat i hate it when atheists celebrate christmas. your not catholics! you shouldnt get gifts!

but it's fun

What are some Japanese holidays we can celebrate to get out own back?

I like the idea of hosting our own penis festivals.

it's more of a secular festivity than anything else at this point, last I checked the bible doesn't mention christmas trees, deers and Santa Klaus in Coke outfit.

Besides, the festivity predates christianity, it has actually pagan origin and was later conveniently assimilated with the never confirmed theory that Jesus was born in december.

Goddamn Americans keep spreading their decadent consumerist holidays. First it was Valentines day, now Halloween is making its way here.

I wonder when we'll start celebrating the genocide of Native Americans?

>> No.10120508

But valentines day in Japan has nothing to do with the same holiday in the west

>>10120485
They don't have that many, really. Holidays are for lazy americans, not hard work japanese

>> No.10120513

Actually, there is historical evidence that Jesus-san was born in spring.

>> No.10120521

of course the bible doesn't mention christmas, we only celebrated the birth of jesus after it was confirmed he was the son of god (after he resurrected after being crucified). paganism is a sin and christians know jesus was not born on december 25, it just happens to be the winter solstice and so we thought it was fitting.

get ur facts straught nerdmaster

That penis celebration actually represents a god of agriculture (who is also a three meter long penis) visiting his wife, so you'll need a giant penis god first. Kokopelli might work for Americans, so might Priapus for Europe. You could also use Peor and sell penis accessories that you can stick on your tongue during his festival, since supposedly Peor's tongue was a giant penis.

They should stop with that three day holiday for New Years. After Winter Comiket there's nothing to do because everything's closed for three days. Meanwhile, the rest of the world gets only one day.

>> No.10120542

I dont know how old you are op, but the world revolves around money, and if these events make profit then it doesn't really matter what the culture is its going to be celebrated.

Not anymore. But then Coca Cola has nothing to do with St. Nickolas, and Christmas is was supposed to be some Arab/Jew thing wut?

Fun facts: A chocolate company introduced the idea of giving chocolates to everyone you know on Valentines Day and special chocolates to the one you love. Then someone decided it wasn't enough so now you give stuff in return on White Day. The Japanese are a 110% commercially oriented people.

What the heck is Thanks Giving even supposed to be anyway? A pre-Christmas?

I dunno. I'm an eurofag and I've never quite understood that's that supposed to mean.

I hope they start celebrating Thanksgiving and 4th of July too. It's cute when they try to do western things.

Holloween is not well known at all. In the last few years some Japanese chain stores have started carrying Halloween festive things, but other than that almost all Japanese won't know it to exist outside of America.

Valentines Day is meant for boys and White Day is for girls.

The modern Thanksgiving holiday traces its origins from a 1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation, where the Plymouth settlers held a harvest feast after a successful growing season. This was continued in later years, first as an impromptu religious observance, and later as a civil tradition.

>Christmas is was supposed to be some Arab/Jew thing wut?
Sort of. Christmas was a combination of various pagan holidays with the birth of Jesus celebration. Most of the rituals (Christmas trees, mistletoe, giving of gifts, etc.) came from other holidays that Christmas absorbed during Christianization.

>> No.10120611

>>10120600
Correct. There is a reason that Puritans banned Christmas and other holy days while they had power in England.

>> No.10120613

I love their approach towards religion.

>>10120600
So basically similar to how Japan is absorbing Christmas and putting their own spin on it. Actually every culture does this when they import foreign festivities and such.
