The SDOJ thread would've got more attention around release date, there's nothing to really talk about yet.

I find it sad that people only play Touhou too, there are way to many great STGs out their to limit yourself to just 1 series, but I guess one of the bigger problems is people discover STGs through Touhou, and the less lenient gameplay in arcade STGs (lack of resources, no death bombing, etc) seems overwhelming, so they just pass it of as too hard, which once you get used to the different style of gameplay really isn't the case.

Man, the only game i want to finish is SA, since it has my favourite characters and themes (the most of them at least), but it's so damn hard.
To make it worse, i get disocuraged each time i lose a life, and either ragequit, or restart the game completely.

It's a streaming card. I find being at the bottom of the screen isn't too good. So, I prefer to misdirect the first aimed shots from the right side at the middle of the screen, then misdirect the second wave in the middle. Then, I move up the line of those human-shaped familiars then misdirect the next wave from the left side, then do the same thing for the next two waves (except in the opposite direction). Unless you misdirect the aimed stuff wrong, you should be very safe and have plenty of time to capture the spellcard.

Well, yeah, it will, but xpadder is just a program that lets you adjust more settings and profiles and things.

I use a PS3 controller to play 2hu. It's much better than a keyboard, at least my particular keyboard.

Depends. I have it set up for both. D pad is better for bosses, because it's a little more precise, but the analog sticks are good for everything else. I can't seem to get the analog sticks to work on menus, so I'm kind of tied to the D pad anyway.

UFO scoring is definitely not about survival. Not dying and capturing spells in Nue/Kogasa is one of the least interesting aspect in UFO Extra Scoring.

I have some old calculation based from old HECATE's of where scores come from in UFO Lunatic. Spell card bonuses (except the ones that have to be bombed) contributes about 200M to 300M, while grazing and UFO summon contributes the rest (2700M). That's like 10% of survival.

In UFO Extra, NMNB Nue and Kogasa worth about 300M. Grazing and UFOs worth about 400M. Though doing NMNB Nue and Kogasa is much easier compared to doing the rest of gimmicky, restart inducing, RNG ridden (Kogasa Safespot and big UFO movement) stuff.

Numbers are a heavy approximation, though I'd at least get the digits right.

But, for example, in MoF Extra, "survival" makes up 95% of the score, while horrifying optimization accounts for the rest. The difference in skill and strategy required for that 5% ends up being significant.

I use keyboard and I prefer keyboard. It's much easier to make crisp movements. I think it's better to get used to a keyboard just for precise dodging when you get to a harder difficulty when you realize the best way to dodge is to try to move as little as possible, unless the spell card gimmick says otherwise.

So I recently switched PC-98 emulators from Next to Anex86 because I couldn't get Next to use fullscreen, but Anex86 has this horrible sound delay. Like there will be a full second between hitting an enemy and hearing the enemy hit sound.

Try with a pad unless poor, you'll only spend like $20 tops and it might work for you.

Also, one or two runs a day won't do it for you, you gotta sit down and endeavor to meet some sort of goal erryday.

I wouldn't worry about that. 2 months isn't slow at all for a Normal 1cc. It took me about 5 months to get my first Lunatic 1cc.

My tips are to practice and watch/share replays. You can learn a lot from watching someone else play or by having someone critique your run. Also, make sure that your controls and setup are fluent.

Don't waste credits, if you mess up early use the rest of the run to try out new tactics, or to practice/gain consistency at later sections you still have trouble with.
Some of my first clears started out as terrible runs.

there is no trick to it tbh, just read the knives and go through the bubbles when you need to, I find staying at lower left corner makes it easier when using sakuya A.

Just remember that the bubbles have small hitboxes, so there's a lot more room to dodge than it may seem to appear.
Also, you can move to one of the sides to make it easier, though it will take longer to capture that way.

DBDB is Yukari's card, and Charming Siege is the harder one of those two in my opinion. Same goes for Ran's version, Unilatelar Contract, which is simple enough to read. The survivals are both staticly formed and easy to read once you get into them, whereas Charming Shit can form walls based on RNG, which is why it's considered as the hardest card of Ran's.

However, my google-fu is not up to par and upon looking for more danmaku games that aren't 2hu related, I yielded very little results(mainly cave games, Hellsinker(which is nigh-fucking impossible to find a working dl to), Jamestown, and Blue Wish).

I was quite shocked to learn that that...thing in the background is actually Mad Ball. Supposedly Manabu Namiki said that he based the tune "Stab and Stomp!" on the propeller and drill noises the boss made.

If I can recall correctly, the Wayne brothers' endings in Armed Police Batrider depict some of the bosses' blueprints (Along with some rather funky Engrish). There's also a doodle of Mad Ball on Garegga's official site.
