N'gah-Kthun's resolution is surprising. I was expecting it to be the usual 800x600. Kind of wish it still was, to be honest. Hiragumo-chan and that yuri title were 800x600, so starting with this maybe all their future titles will have the bigger resolution,

In all honesty, I liked everything else EXCEPT the endings. The slice of life and the manzai between Tsuki and Kaito were great. But those endings felt so abrupt that it left a bad aftertaste.

Well, whatever. I have a few days till Relay Broadcast comes out so I could keep working on my neverending backlog or actually finish Xenoblade.

Laptop had major slowdowns so I decided to format everything and dust the insides. Took quite a while since this was my first time doing this but now everything runs top notch again.

Backupped all my saves to external HDD but somehow missed Dies Irae's system file. I have the actual saves, but the game wouldn't let me into main menu until rereading the prologue and extra screen + other stories are locked again. Luckily the game lets you skip unread text.

This is probably a shot in the dark but I'm having trouble playing Kakyuusei 2. I tried playing it both before and after applying the no-dvd and no activation patches, but nothing happens when I double click the exe. I also tried playing it from the start-up menu and an error popped up, something about a problem with emulation. Has anyone played it before or have any idea what to do?

Pretty bad. Story is a big nothing, and it was awfully cheap in some ways - everyone got only one tachi-e and in most cases eroscenes are only one CG long. Gameplay was also fairly simple and repetitive, although I enjoyed it enough.

Still worth it if you like Oyari Ashito art or enjoy seeing all the genderflipped historical characters. Also, the final villain is awesome. One of my top 10 favorite characters of 2012 for sure. I'll probably play the sequel.

When I started reading Muramasa I was bracing for some epic shit. I never expected to be reading one of the funniest VNs I've had the chance to read.

I decided to continue Subahibi after getting distracted by various projects and shit for university for the past couple months. I'm currently on It's My Own Invention and I have to say, I'm pretty amazed at how well this part was written.

Also, is JQV any good? I've been thinking of trying it out for a while. I'm not that big of a fan of kinetic novels that are more than just a few hours long, but this one seems interesting.

As a doujin game? In my top five, ~9.0-2
Compared to Cross Channel? 8. And they are very comparable. JQV is a great game with great text and decent pacing and the way the characters are involved in the scenario is genuinely interesting. The conclusion, some moments and speeches, were great. The progression and evolution of its themes and realizations? Great. Still not Cross Channel.

I recommend you play JQV, I really do. You'll like it for sure, but don't expect the best game ever.

It ocuppies maybe less than 1/3 of a game not that long, and introduces five new heroines with side characters. So, yes, it's pretty rushed.

As a nukige I think jokei3 is pretty tame, which is a waste of its potential and its art.
Also what's with eroge and its inability to write standard length H-scenes. The ones in Oyako Rankan are too long so my arm gets tired, while the ones here are too short so they often end before I can finish.

it's pretty cool, the hypnotism gimmick is used mostly as a sort of "let's use hypnotism to help her overcome psychological problems" gap thing, routes I remember: cool girl who softens up, sadistic girl who turns up having a maso side, self-conscious girl who uses hypnotism to gain confidence, and so on. The couple with the heroine of choice is also formed pretty early so the whole route is about them being in a relationship, which is something I love. I think it was a pretty decent game, nothing ground-breaking but nice.

Oh and I guess there's also a harem route where everything that has a sprite gets fucked multiple times, but I kinda skipped that.

Do Izumi and Mari's route have less collateral drama? I was absolutely won over by Mari's maturity and when Izumi said that Haruki could feel free to run away from his problems with her, but I haven't liked Koharu's route as much so far because of the whole betraying her friend and having a hard time at school.

Of course I realize Setsuna is going to be a persistent issue regardless of the routes, I'd like to know if at least Izumi and Mari have a lot of dramatic strings attached

I've been consistently surprised with this game. I usually dislike heavy drama, but Maruto's text still shines. Game is just charming.

Finished Cratagra. Great game, not as good as kara no shoujo but still liked it a lot. I had some problems with it, but not really big save for Nana during the epilogue and basically deus ex machina'ing the whole mystery regarding Yura but it ges forgiven because she was amazing during it with scenes like I present you my dear friend, Kohzuki Kazuna.
Also love it when menu screens change to fit the ending, always a nice detail that leaves you fulfilled and tells you you've finished.

Now time for my next murderfest, Caucasus.

Finished Mizuho route in 月に寄りそう乙女の作法. I have to say I found Luna and Ursule routes exceptionally good but Mizuho route was simply boring and disappointing. How does Minato route compare to the other routes? I almost never touch osananajimi routes so I'm not too motivated in playing it, especially considering how disappointing Mizuho route was.

Caucasus had it's good points but I found Cartagra a lot better read in general. Caucasus feels more "gamey" with the player point'n'clicking more than actually reading anything. This wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't rely so much on trial and error.

During the explore/search phases you can talk to different characters but this rarely triggers anything apart from the generic そうですか or some other one line response. This gets quite annoying when you're hunting the same obscure flags for the 7th time. Also, as you run around the mansion certain scenes "can" trigger but their requirements are very specific. F.ex. for one H scene to occur you have to visit a certain character's door during a very specific time frame.

There are also a lot of plot important stuff you can easily miss during search sequences which won't affect the ending at all, while some trivial flags make all the difference. F.ex. at least few of the good / true endings require you to hear a person singing during the very first search phase. It has no relevance to anything whatsoever but you need it nonetheless. I was on my way to true end but the game wouldn't let me present the final evidence because I didn't trigger that one unrelated scene.
I'd suggest trying out a few different runs (even letting people die on purpose since some bad / normal ends give big clues), then using a walkthrough.

Caucasus is also shorter, but it has a shitload of branches. Cartagra just felt more compact and "whole".

Finished every normal end in Caucasus with its epilogues.
There's obviously some seriously unexplained shit regarding who is killing the rest of the cast, as I doubt Shion/Seiji could.
It also baffled me how they made Shion, reclused girl who basically screams pure, be in a relationship with both Seiji and Ai (more or less, it's evident she wanted to fuck Rokuyou by her reaction to his death), she was pregnant and all in prison, quite surprising.

Though my main problem with Caucasus in general is the MC, no personality at all even if he bothered to snap, punch and rape Shion which is a giant step down from Shuugo/Reiji, and makes the whole game less enjoyable in general. Art and soundtrack are great but I feel it lacks more normal CGs and instead it's filled with sex-related ones, KnS and cartagra actually balanced them.

Combat is only fun when you play it on hard and even then it take forever until you get to the fun part (Marcedonia). They casualized it hard on this one.

Well, I just finished Chocolat, maid cafe curio.
I liked both Parfait and White Album 2 so I thought I should give it a try.
It was pretty short, took me like 2 days, but damn I was pretty surprised by the last few routes.
The routes of Misato, Mako, Suzu and Sayaka were pretty forgettable, I was especially disappointed by Misato's route since she is kind of sold as the main heroine but I guess she is just used for the cover?
The best part of these routes was the foreshadowing about Kanako and the various scenes with Midori and her.

And talking about them, the game started getting really good with Midori's route. I thought that this route, Kanako's bad end, Chiroru's route and Kanako's true end and after story were up there with the best part of Parfait/WA 2 personally
Well considering I left these routes for last, I am pretty damn satisfied.

Was I the only one who thought that Midori/Kanako's stories were really similar to what is found in WA2? Kanako is basically proto-Kazusa too.
And is Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku o worth reading?

I forgot to mention that you could just pick up and play Eiyuu Senki. The game is intuitive/simple enough that you dont need to know Japanese to follow. Apply the interface patch and you are good to go.

They're pretty much dead unless their next game turned out to be awesome. (Not likely, their next game is Bunny Black 3)
They've been in constant decline after Daisounan. Their games after Wizard Climber were all ill received.
Their most recent game is pretty much considered a landmine.
The gameplay is good but because it's severely lacking in content, by the 2nd playthrough and beyond it's already dull and monotone.
A few days after its release, it's already being wrote off and sold for as low as 2000 yen brand new.
A lot of fans have vowed to never buy a game from them again.

I mentioned this earlier but I got a download of Swan's 君だけのボテドル　but couldn't get it to work because it asks for a DVD. Only there was no DVD image; it's one of those direct install files.

All the old links I find with the no DVD crack for it are dead. I don't suppose there's any point in showing the error but that's what was asked of me before I simply dropped it. Now I'm curious to try again.

(No, just kidding. But that's a pretty good way to end your trial if you want to maximize the number of already existing fans who will buy the sequel out of a desire for revenge.)

Everything looks gorgeous, story seems it will be both compelling and full of new fucked-up twists to discover, detective work is back, best supporting cast members are back (I wanna see some Reiji on Ayumu), takoyaki guy is back, and the music was lovely as always, and full of little throwback flourishes to the original score.

In short: I felt right at home. It's like the first game never ended. February is going to be a great month.
