I just think it's kind of funny that it's day 1 pirate for the games everyone wants MG to release more of, and 3 weeks for nukige that no one cares about. You're basically getting them to do the opposite. I'm not saying don't pirate it, but the least you could do is show a little respect and maybe wait a few days...

>> No.10105790

You kind of answered yourself, when asking the question. With BW i had to look around, asking people for it, then looking for replacement when original supplier went MIA. With Otoboku I had 4 people messaging me "I got it pre-ordered. Want the files as soon as game goes live?".

It doesn't. I can't find it right now, but some years ago a Stardock representative, the CEO if I'm not wrong, made a statement about why they don't use copy protection, the money that they spared with it that was invested on their actual games and the profit of more than one million dollars from Galactic Civilizations II alone, before it even had expansions. Even Sins of a Solar Empire followed that model and has been a huge commercial success for them.

Even if it's a different crowd, the market behaves in the same way. If people find it worthy of their money, they will buy it regardless of being able to pirate it since day 1 or even before release date.

On the same topic, do you find it curious how Google shows no results for the Boob Wars one I released recently, whereas several years ago I remember quite clearly that it would give results for the other MG releases? They're no longer concerned with finding exactly what you're looking for, but with suppressing and filtering information carefully to give you the results *they* want you to see and believe.

Those imports are not unusual for statically linked MSVCRT.

I'm not going to dig into the script files anytime soon since they're not attached, but if it doesn't work right, try copying the EXE to the temporary directory where it's usually found and running from there. Keep the original bloaty DRM'd one in the install directory. pretty much everyone on this board could at most get minimum wage job, nothing more.

the kind that leaves you with debts or hunger issues when you're done paying all taxes and bills.

bare minimum luxuries like internet and computer may be affordable after months of saving, but something like overly expensive video games like this not really.

The pricing is a sore point that I wish we (english staff) could do more about. The softhouse seal titles in particular are overpriced for their length imo. MG has tried dropping prices in the past though, but it doesn't bring many more sales. If we halved the cost of a game, we don't see twice as many sales, so we're kind of stuck at the moment with niche pricing. It is something that comes up frequently and hopefully it's something that will change for the better as time goes on.

Pic related is what Steam does in Russia. You've probably heard Newell saying that price doesn't matter, it's their service being better than pirates' is what makes them successful in Eastern Europe.
The fatass is lying. The price becomes the most important thing when your income is a fraction of target audience's one, and /jp/ to your target audience is what Russia is to Steam's target audience in the West.
Also, VN isn't a multiplayer thing, so you can't offer that as an advantage of being a legit user over being a pirate, but you can at least offer cloud storage of saves or something.

Chinese already have a huge amount of translated games (http://vndb.org/v/all?q=&fil=lang-zh)), including fan-favorite titles such as Muramasa, Baldr Sky, SubaHibi... And yes, Chinese as a language has more native speakers than English, so that's a pretty big chunk of your "95% of the Earth" out of the way.
Honestly, they have zero need for Mangagamer as far as eroges are concerned.

That could also be said for Koreans. If they have any interest in VNs, it's very likely they learned japanese at some point, given the proximity / similarities with their own language.

I'll give you Indians, since a decent number of them knows English. But, as for one, I've never come across an Indian eroge fan. Ever. Besides, their revenues are too low to afford buying such games, which excludes them from the target market of MG. Same for Vietnam, Thailand, and almost all other countries of Asia. Add the whole continent of Africa to that, and you have the reason why I said "western market".

Please strongly consider hard copy releases that coincide with digital ones. It seems to be the big complaint everyone has. >malware.packer.gen

Probably a false positive. "gen" specifies a generic signature. "packer" shows that the executable is packed in another one, kinda like how UPX does it with uTorrent. Without more conclusive evidence it's hard to make a decision.

Ideally one should execute it in Sandboxie and see if the executable writes anywhere else but the game's directory and the savefile directory. In any case, if you don't get a UAC prompt it should be safe since an executable can't do anything dangerous (like install a rootkit or a malware service) without Administrative privileges.

It's definitely a false positive. The file is NOT packed. "How do you know", you ask? Because I unpacked it. Usual cracker here.

I did not expect this to be out so soon.

I've looked at Cudder's cracks for this and they seem fine and working, even if they have a few non-essential problems:
Boob Wars's XP3 needs repacking so that it doesn't check for hexadecimal filename.
Otoboku's title was renamed (virtual adress 455708), which looks a bit unprofessional.

EXE is unpacked fine, but it's not as clean as it can be which will make some security software complain and some reversing tools slightly break.

/jp/ and erogedownload dev, do you want me to make my own cracks for those 2 games or are you fine with Cudder's?
It would take a few hours of my time, but would be worth it if you want an "archival" quality version.

>/jp/ and erogedownload dev, do you want me to make my own cracks for those 2 games or are you fine with Cudder's?
I am fine with otoboku.exe which is posted in trusted (aka green) torrent on sukebei - it has Cudder's "failing" maidens fixed back to "falling" ones, in addition to being installed instead of original DRM-rigged one. And it looks like 2k+ downloaders of that version are fine with it too.
I don't have a problem with hexa filename of Boob Wars either, so I'd say don't bother unless you think you'll find something for youself out of it and/or you're a perfectionist.
If anything, I'm interested in the format (mastering software, mostly) MG use for their physical releases because none of these seem to have been ripped and uploaded somewhere. Otoboku looks much like it's already prepared for mastering (see "Insert CD" error on installing from non-default directory), so if we're going for "archival" quality, it should be packed in an ISO image as well.
I was thinking of making an Otoboku ISO with CDIMAGE that MS is using for their Windows ISOs... just for the lulz.

> What do you mean? I was *very* thorough in removing all traces of the packer code, which I didn't do for the previous one. Some AVs these days are too paranoid to care about, and MG can sell DRM'd versions that make them complain even more...

The packer was removed properly, but the unpacked exe is still not "standard" enough that all tools will like it.

Here's a few things which you could do to make them work better:
- You appended the imports to the last section instead of placing them in .rdata. This packer just slightly "encrypts" the original import table and function names and clears them after processing. You can change the packer's code in a few places so that it recovers the exact original imports. If neither of this was possible, putting the imports in their own .idata section will make some tools complain less.
- The original section names and characteristics are lost, but they are the default ones for MSVC-compiled applications, you could easily recover them. Tools like IDA will give far better results when reversing such binaries (such as detecting library code). A few security software suites will complain due to this.
- Your realigner mangles the original DOS header, it can be left intact, after removing one small modification the packer did to it (one DWORD). A few security software suites will complain due to this.

Do those things and your unpacked executable will be nearly identical to the original one that was passed to their packer.
Are these needed for having a running executable? No. They're cosmetic details that will make some tools work better and give you a perfect score when ran against online virus checkers.

In the case of one of my "Hello world" triggering false positives, it's clear the software never attempted to analyse the code at all.

>Do those things and your unpacked executable will be nearly identical to the original one that was passed to their packer.
The goal here is to get something working and reasonably efficient, not to reproduce the original executable. (There's probably about 400KB of zero bytes somewhere in the middle of the original. That's why I cut it up. All that wasted space.)
