I wish the Western fanbase called it Project Shrine Maiden instead of Touhou Project.

When I was at New York Comicon, there was a few Touhou doujin artists. When I was at bkub's table, an interviewer came up and asked what series the comics were from/about and the artists and translators started telling him about Touhou. When he asked how do you spell Touhou, they said it was "Toho."

It is kinda weird that most westerners spell it "Touhou" while I'm pretty sure the correct romanization is "Toho." I was surprised that none of the artists, or even the translators, knew that we spell it "Touhou" but I guess they don't really need to know or care.
I tried to be nice though and told them many westerners spell it "Touhou" for some reason and that more internet results would come up with that.

I think some translators just settle on something and the rest of the fanbase just picks it up and rolls with it. Most things in the series don't have an official English spelling.

It's odd though how Yuugi and Yuuka are spelled "Yugi" and "Yuka" in the game while no one spells it like that. And most Japanese spell it "Toho" in fanart while most websites like Amiami use "Touhou."

I always thought we used "Touhou" as the romanization because you can't get the Touhou kanji using Microsoft IME with "Toho"

徒歩, 杜甫 (are what I get with "Toho")
東方, 当方, 東邦 (just a few examples of "Touhou")

I use "ou" to represent a long "o" sound because I think those kinds of things are important. I just woke up so I can't think of any examples off the top of my head, but aren't there a number of words that sound the same, but mean different things without that long "o"? How would you romanize them?
