It's self-explanatory really. S2 was just complete anime-original filler and 90% on S1 was slice-of-doll-joint-life comedy. They were pretty terribly paced. The manga on the other hand actually tried to progress the story line.

You're approaching the issue from a standpoint of many years ago. I doubt even 50% that board as it is currently has watched or read any of it. It becoming impossible to enjoy any currently airing anime without the bitter aftertaste of their obnoxious fanfare. Any old seasons, or previous unadapated works are not spared from the taint, as the filthy ones will go back and retroactively ruin them with their touch.
