I'm learning right now, though I can't see a driving test on the horizon.

Cute girl so it would be /jp/ related.

February this year after a string of instructors who thought the best way to motivate me to drive well was to yell and curse loudly at me.

I've yet to do the exam, and it's been years since I was allowed to take it.

I only want it so I can have some ID readily available...

I'm sure you can get a plain ID wherever you live.

Technically, at age 18, but it's only a license that allows me to drive mopeds, not cars. (I got it because it was the last year in which you could still get one with only a theory exam.)

Driving licenses here require a strict practical exam for which you need to have a lot of experience, and strict laws ensure that said experience can only be gained by paying very expensive driving instructors (there's no way or special license or anything to just get someone you know to teach you anything about driving - only with a professional instructor you're allowed behind the steering wheel). As getting a license (including driving lessons) costs upwards of $2000, I never did get one.

Christ. Is that in the UK?

I didn't get mine until I was into my twenties. Had no social life anyway. I just biked everywhere, which kept my beer gut in check.

At age 17

Then i never touched a car again, didn't even want to do the test. Was forced to at the time by parents. So it just sits pointlessly in my wallet.

Netherlands. I think UK has ways to let someone not ripping you off teach you how to drive.

I believe that's how it works in all european countries.

Personally I'd be terrified driving in the US, with all those 16 year olds with no proper training driving around.
