What would Touhou battles be like if they were animated? Would they be like your typical shonen powerlevel battle, or something more about outsmarting the opponent, like in JoJo's? Or just cute effects everywhere and marvelous stunts?

Fights with Sakuya would never work unless Araki writes them or she just decides that she can't stop time at all for some reason. Just look at how bad SSIB handled her fight.

Other fights would just be fast-paced LOOK AT ALL THOSE FLASHING LIGHTS. ANIMATION MONEY WELL SPEND. Fights with Marisa would also include some long Kamehameha-like scene in which Marisa shouts MASTER SPARK really loud.

For Touhou to work as anime it need some tweak in characterization and a more solid "facts" about power

Ugh. Don't remind me of those fights in SSiB. I actually just looked through that last night and I could feel myself getting annoyed just flipping through the pages.

But yeah, the Spellcard duels as they're shown in the games don't really translate to other media very well. Would require quite a bit of retooling to make it work like an actual fight.
