The time has finally come. My last thread on /jp/.

This probably isn't the first time you're hearing this, and it probably won't be the last either. It was fun in the beginning. Then everyone whined about shitposting for the past two years. And now, the very core of /jp/, the threads about otaku culture itself, about our lifestyle, are being deleted by the janitors. Unless they happen to find personal relevance in them and leave them, but that's a crapshoot, and I'm not going to settle for someone censoring my posts based on their own preferences. After years of this board getting worse and asking myself why I still spend day after day here wearing out my F5 key, I am just about ready to move on.

I wish there was somewhere else to go that wasn't shit, somewhere even slightly better than /jp/. Going to watch this thread until it goes down like all the rest. Thanks for reading.

The thing is, you could create a whole website devoted to giving niche interests in otaku culture their own boards. There would be dozens of boards, and even then, it wouldn't be enough. If moot gave in to people whining for a Touhou board separate from /jp/, it wouldn't be long before people started demanding more sub-boards, and on and on until 4chan becomes as autistic as the big Japanese imageboards.

I've been here since the beginning. The userbase attitudes have changed over time and we get a lot more people shitposting. At least before they were upfront about it, but the current breed acts as if they belong here and their threads and posts are acceptable.
We have people posting "I fugged your mom last night" without a trace of irony. Threads about spam go for hundred of replies and the board actively repudiates its moderation. Regular posters are apathetic and spammers dominate the discourse. People actually considering that fumo and tea threads do not belong in the board, and kuroko spam is more related. That visual novel discussion belongs in a single thread and not covering the whole board like it could as a core topic.

I don't think you're the only one that has been here since the split and thinks things are still the same and mostly okay. But the fact that most of us have already left for better, smaller sites is something to consider. Ask around, most are 2010-2011 now. Not that new posters are bad, but that the original community is no longer there. We have rules and moderation trying to protect a board that no longer exists, appealing to a userbase that has left, and fighting the users who are now the majority and what dictate the direction of this board.

I wish I could leave. Just stop caring about a place that is no longer my home.

Not everyone can stay a NEET forever. This board was created in 2008, a lot of people who used to browse /jp/ 14 hours a day might have been forced by their circumstances into schooling/working and only come here a few hours a day.

There's also the possibility that a good part of the community just put in the time to learn Japanese and went straight to the source. Think about it, how many years of regular study does it take to learn how to read Japanese? 4? 5? anyone who started learning back then and never stopped is bound to have learned a lot, and they probably moved on to japanese sites, translation groups, or just spend a lot more time digging through untranslated materials. Also, those who took classes could have ended up getting involved with people and gotten jobs, friends, etc, and probably don't come here as often as they used to.

Or maybe they just picked up a different hobby and left.

You're sort of on the right path. The thing is that a number of people on /jp/ lack both motivation and the ability to communicate with others in real life. There are a few NEETs here that taught themselves Japanese, but are not leaving /jp/ because they don't have the latter. It could just be a choice, too. Still, this is the minority. The ones who were here in 2008 and left were just normals that weren't obnoxious and were much closer to a truNEET than all the /r9k/ refugees we have today.
