In America, sometimes you need a car just to function.
You can buy a shitty one for the price of several figures.
You can also live in it.

In Australia people living outside inner Melbourne or Sydney need cars to function, and they are incredibly expensive.
That is a prime example of what is wrong with this country for a NEET: due to the high wages for unskilled work, the price of simple necessities is massively inflated.
I would think that $400 in welfare here would buy the same quantity of necessities (groceries, rent, etc.) as $200 in the US, based on the prices I hear from over there.

Not to start a nationality shitstorm or insult other countries, but something I really love about living in America is how cheap everything is. It's truly amazing and I seriously pity other countries when I read about their average prices for necessities.

I hear that since Australia is so far away from everyone that things cost a lot more. That sucks.
Being so used to American prices, seeing the prices for basics in Japan just boggles my mind.

The thing is that those inflated prices extend to domestically produced items/food.
That's what makes me think that it is more a product of wages being too high for simple jobs. The minimum wage here is $16 ($16.60US).

>> No.10027141

>>10027117
Yeah, I'm British and it always blows my mind how much cheaper things are in North America. I thought it was perhaps a result of whatever the exchange rate is based on, but your typical worker for common jobs earns about the same in both countries, it just goes farther in America.

I guess those Jewish banks and all that 20th century capitalism paid off.

Yep, that'll do it. If companies can't afford to pay wages, they have to raise prices. Things end up about the same as if you'd had a lower minimum wage.

How is it even possible to break an audi? Even a shitty occasion model? A french or korean shit,yes... But an audi who doesn't work better than a ford? IMPOSSIBRU!

>> No.10034776

>>10034744
you would be surprised at how unreliable they are. Maybe they get broken fast because people tend to drive them recklessly, by doing things like accelerating really fast, and then stopping suddenly and revving the engine to show off the noise it makes, while cheap commuter cars don't get the same treatment.

My mom's shitty 2003 corolla is still going and it has over 300,000 miles. Only thing that died was the battery twice, and it got a new transmission at 215k miles.

I've helped a few family friends tow their dead German sedans (BMW/Audi) from the highway back to their house with my old F-250 when I had it (Did this 4 times). Those german cars were no more than 3 years old, and 3 of them needed a new transmission. Also, an A6 had a fuel leak that made the car undriveable for a week until they fixed it. turns out it was a manufacturing problem.

My old F-250 lasted for nearly a quarter of a million miles before it got wrecked by a 18-wheeler backing up into a parking lot.

I would drive a ford pickup over a German sedan anytime. Of course, this doesn't mean that ford sedans are good, quite the opposite, they are shit-tier vehicles that are on par with chinese cars. Their trucks on the other hand, are durable.
