I'd say the wiki translations are fairly good, though I only have a limited understanding of Japanese. They're certainly better than the old patches.

I don't know about the new translations broadly, only the ones I have spotted when I have gone in looking for very specific information, such as kanji for original track titles. But my general impression is that, while some retranslation are welcomed, many of the retranslations are just as uncalled for.

This. There's adding "hell" or something because someone used anata/kisama, then there's putting words in a character's mouth. In English it's easy to get across rudeness without resorting to insults. In fact, "You're in the way. Get out of the way!" is not only a reasonable translation but plenty rude already.

The only reason the translators did this was because they wanted to have a zany pop culture reference and do some superfluous interpretation of how they think a character should act. They also suck at Japanese going by the rest of the translation.

Your shallow view is what's ruining touhouwiki.

The imperative tense sounds much more rude in japanese than in English. The original phrase Alice wanted Marisa to use is "Move it, get out of the way!". This simply lacks the needed impact when translated, because japanese people talk by default using more polite mannerisms (which aren't usually translated or the dialogue would look artificial).

So the original translator was faced with the need of representing something very rude. "Move it, get out of the way!" is literally a worse translation than "Bitch, get out of the way". It confuses the viewer (why would Reimu be mad if she heard that?)

Real translation errors exist and should be fixed. On the top of my mind would be Remilia's "shit" comments in IN.

It really is more like "Alright, now get out of the way!" Marisa herself wasn't trying specifically to be rude or anything, nor was she calling Reimu anything. She was jokingly telling Reimu to move after blaming the entire incident on Alice.

Still, I do feel for those translators. ZUN's Japanese is not on the easy side.
