If you live in Japan, even the smallest Touhou event here offers more than Touhoufest. And I don't mean that in a derogatory way, I'm sure that Touhoufest is doing it's best. It's just that America and the West don't have the infrastructure to support a traditional Touhou event.

It wasn't like that last year. Most people aren't insufferable, and that also goes for most con-goers. This also isn't your average anime con: it's basically a small Touhou-only event with a few hundred attendants. Compared to larger anime/gaming cons, I would say the demographic tends a couple of years older.
It's probably best to not expect too much, but it's also no good to have negative expectations.
