There were already great Japanese engines for decades specifically for eroge, which technically are just simple 2D slideshows. Cunny 2x4 works perfect for 1080p -> 1440p and consumes almost no gpu, very nice. 8x16 looks slightly more blurry for 720p -> 1440p compared to my anime4k ul setup, but text looks better this way, might switch to cunny actually.
Frame duplication detection looks like a cool feature too.

Yeah I used those as well along with screenshots when training, but ideally a screenshots-only dataset is better since they have text and text is usually the biggest annoyance when upscaling VNs.

I suspect it's the usage of catrom when downsampling HR->LR. It seemed to fix aliasing at first somehow but maybe it made stuff too sharp.
The mpv benchmark was done on another set of shaders that were trained using only box downsampling.

Alright first of all I didn't check with text but the shader generally looks great. Its a quite nice improvement over FSRCNNX_LineArt (I don't use highly lossy shit like anime4k)
Although I'm 90% sure that the magpie implementation has this same chroma upscaling issue that fsrcnnx had in the past. My girl's cheeks are going black from pink.

As an "I fucking hate lossy shaders" guy I am switching to Ravu_Zoom_AR_R3_RGB with this magpie update. Its basically a better Lanczos with no color or line width changes.
My easiest to spot first criteria is:
When a girl's cheek lines (////////) darken in color, change shape or disappear altogether = shader is trash and unusable. See the first image in below comparison.

Go to the scaling configuration options and select these effects
The first 2 are the most commonly used ones, but personally i'm a big fan of Denoise, it decreases the text artifacts in a lot of games which makes it easier to read

This one is pretty hard to describe, it has a very long common route with not so interesting and overly cliched plot about fighting with bad guys who want to close the school and ruin the island, it's kinda very close to the grounds with a lot of technical information about island's politics and realistic ways to confront them which isn't exactly exciting (though still can be pretty interesting in some parts)
But this game still sits very close in my soul due to its extremely genuine and nostalgic atmosphere of an island, it's rare when i felt so much at home just by listening to the music alone
The characters are also very genuine, there is a lot of overcoming with the power of friendship moments even though mostly very naive
Mikoto is still my favorite imouto ever even despite being nbr, Sera also hits very hard as sadistic tsundere
The biggest minus of the game would be that the routes themselves are mostly just short omake after stories, but thankfully it got an extremely good fandisk that covers up for that greatly by adding pretty much a whole missing part of the game

I haven't finished yet, but the anti-racism theme in Unravel Trigger feels very meaningless since there is not much of a cultural gap depicted between the furries, the vampires, and the humans. The closest it gets is that vampires drink blood, but this is ignored completely as an issue due to the existence of artificial blood. So whenever they talk about overcoming prejudice it's not really about the race, it's just a war thing, 'your country killed my parents' and all that. I feel like they could have made the racism theme more deeper if there was a fundamental lack of understanding between the different races due to a cultural barrier.

The IF games are/revised updated versions of the originals that change plot beats. For example, one of the heroines in KF2 is the queen, but in KF2if they turn her into the king's sister (so she can be a virgin). I'd only read both versions if you're REALLY into KF. I haven't encountered a VN that I hated as it progressed, my enjoyment only increases as I get into a story. I could never relate to those who liked something but didn't like the ending. If it is good then the ending will be good, if the ending was bad it was bad all along. That's my philosophy.
Only option is that my opinion on a VN changes after some years.

Have you heard of this? Apparently Atri is getting an anime in 3 months.
I never read it, but I guess I may read it soon so that I can watch the anime as it is broadcasted.
