He does explain why he doesn't choose to abandon his parents and society: he thinks his sister would not be happy, would crumble under the pressure and guilt, and eventually kill herself.

But the thing is, he "thinks" that. He never communicates with his sister. He doesn't explain to her what he's doing, let alone try to find a solution together. But this is by design, it's explicitly stated as one of his character flaws and is the cause of all the drama. While it does approach the difficulties of incestual love from a realistic perspective, it's more of a story about someone who can't deal with that kind of challenge.

I finished Shiniyuku Kimi at the suggestion of some anon from however many threads ago. I liked it, but maybe it's because I'm an unfeeling monster, but I didn't really care much about the story/themes. I liked the sort of oppressive despair creeping into the atmosphere as Mia tries to not give up hope but can't really do anything about her situation, but all of the story twists were so hilariously predictable that they made me laugh more than anything. Additionally, probably like half of my amusement came from the segment where they're getting punched in the face like 18 times, and the seiyuu has to make a different "getting punched in the face" noise 18 times. It probably isn't intended to be funny, but I couldn't help but laugh. Aside from that, the voice acting, music, and art were all pretty good. Particularly Mia/Akashi Yuki's performance was amazing, particularly in the epilogue where she puts on her evil voice and basically turns into Tsuina from Dohna Dohna. God, what a punishable brat voice. Although I really liked the 客人の女 as well. Specifically the way her voice would squeak when she laughed in some of the scenes. On art, I particularly liked this expression of Mia's, but I swear I didn't see it until like 3/4 of the way through the game. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Some of the music, mostly the main piano song you hear throughout the days were pretty nice to listen to, and never felt repetitive despite hearing it play around 60 times or more. Anyways, it was alright. I'd recommend it if you like seeing girls diced up or can get unintentional comedy out of stuff like that.

Turns out Campanella has "quests" you take on. No RPG gameplay. The first one consisted of the party going someplace and fighting a shadow dragon. That's when it got unique. The chibi party positioned at the bottom and the enemy at the top. The fight was narrated in ADV format and several choices came up with 2 or 3 options. They decide the course of battle. The chibis change and "move" to perform actions. Neat stuff.

The first fight was very easy since the characters gave hints what should be done. At the end you pick a character to deliver the finishing blow. I reloaded to see them all and picked the bad choices which lead to a Gameover. I don't know if they added it in the Plus Stories release but after winning a battle once you get an option to skip it on repeat playthroughs. I appreciate that a lot. This quest system is simple and without the battle skip could be tedious on replays but I like it. Gives the fantasy setting an even stronger RPG feel without adding bad RPG gameplay. Best of all no rape on defeat scenes or sex stats to worry about.

Yep, that's Gikei. Tons of great girls, but they chose to give the two least interesting ones the routes and almost all the h-scenes.

Both Gikei and Wagahime are great vns that are deeply, deeply flawed VNs in very different ways, but I'd definitely say Wagahime's the better VN overall. Gikei's problem isn't being a kinetic story, it's just doing Chusingura again, Gikei's problems are in how it executes the linear story it wants to tell, and then there's the ending of the second and third routes, where I'm honestly kind of convinced they ran out of money or time I still really like Gikei and if you like the historical fact infodumping inre games do then it's got plenty of that.
