So I've been using Anki with WaniKani Ultimate for radicals and Jlab's beginner course and saw that I should do 2k/6k Optimized, but I'm having a bit of a hard time with that last one. It's only been 9 days, the beginning was quite easy, but then it started throwing kanji that when together with others change the sound completely, so I haven't been able to memorize quite a few, so then it piles up even more every day and if this continues then I won't even have time to review the ones I don't know.
Should I leave the 2k/6k for now or? Also, the radicals one only has the character and meaning in english, so should I move to one with the sound or is it useless because the sound changes when attached to anything else?
I wish there was a proper path to follow after learning kana...

my problem has been that I keep trying several to see what sticks and so far only the radicals and the Jlab decks did, as the 2k one jumped in difficulty too suddenly, but then I'm afraid it's just me. I find that speaking is not hard, it's the memorizing kanji that fucks me up. that's why I understand quite a few bits when watching anime, so I've been watching japanese youtubers talking about stuff I like instead because I got to the point that all anime is just recycled material to me

this is a lot of info but ultimately the main deal is just getting whatever your doing onto a texthooker or html page like ttu reader so u can yomichan stuff. i think my biggest regret in japanese is how long i spent being stubborn about look ups. obv hover dictionaries are a crutch, but crutches are necessary while learning. you dont want to over-rely on it, but if you're reading something and u cant read like. 躊躇 its a real pain looking it up manually and wastes a ton of time when u could just use one of the above methods. id recommend against reading/immersing with stuff that doesnt involve one of these above methods. obviously if u wanna watch some jpn movie with no subs available or find a book at a thrift store that you wanna read, go ahead do whats fun. but time looking up kanji is time spent not actually reading japanese.

For two years, it took me around 2 hours to complete reviews for a day, since a few months it takes me around 45 minutes daily, but now I am mostly reviewing old cards, not adding anything new. I can play some simple games like 僕の夏休み　or 怪獣が出る金曜日, now I am going throug Yakuza Kenzan - and it is a bit hard, but I grasp general plot. When I try to read a book like Kikis delivery service it is hard, there are plenty of words I don’t understand, but I could follow more or less the plot.

Am I satisfied with my current Japanese level ? No - I can read simple manga which is aimed either for kids (Dragon Ball SD, Shirokuma Cafe, Yotsubato) or for adults (you know what I mean ;-) ).

Can I speak ? Well, I can but I haven’t talk with anyone other than my teacher.

My listening skills are meh - I have tried to watch some simple anime like Kotaro Lives Alone, Way of the House Husband or Aggretsuko but without subtitles and constant pausing it is hard for me to understand anything.

In my situation, does anki have outlived its usefulness ?

What can I do to improve my language skills ?

More anki (which decks do you recommend) ? More anime (which one ? )
