Reading Miburo, it's funny to think how the Shinsengumi are incredibly popular and beloved and there's dozens, maybe hundreds of various Japanese media portraying them as a wacky band of samurai bros, and Miburo's the only one I've ever seen to actually portray them historically accurately (setting aside them all being cute girls), because basically all they do is surround inns, then break down the door and charge inside and kill everyone before they can react. It's weird to think how what was basically a government death squad became so popular.
Admittedly I do think the writer's probably biased because every time Ryoma shows up she destroys the shinsengumi with facts and logic and reduces them to seething over guns and warships making samurai irrelevant.

I haven't finished yet, so it's hard to say. I feel like there's less "damn this is really cool" points than Inganock, but thematically I like Mary and M quite a bit. I also have the opinion that Inganock sort of started falling apart after the halfway point, but so far (I think I'm over halfway through the game) Sharnoth hasn't had any problems like that so to speak. It draws me in less than Inganock, but at the same time it's still a nice, cozy game to read when I have an hour or two to spare, if that makes sense.

the characters aren't all that good/involved except for some with borderline autistic gimmicks (komachi machingunspeak my love), the story gets taken care of in like 3 or 4 unavoidable scenes (also probably the only scenes actually related to the plot) which is to say it's nonexistent similarly to actual route differences, and the author starts clubbing you on the head while saying "do you get what i mean here?!" as you're nearing the finish line. but damn if ou jackson isn't a great writer, it's quite possible you'll become a fan of his just from reading a route in this game too. the humor is genuinely funny if old-fashioned and the protagonist really comes alive all thanks to the monologues and the wacky shit he's up to. also overall an interesting take on the distant/light-misanthropic MC trope that was made popular thanks to maeda works. the music fucks and goes a long way towards creating a comfy experience too. more people should read it, though whether they should read the original or the remake depends on how good said remake is, because it's a fun albeit a slightly exhausting and occasionally annoying time. if you or any anons want to read it then i think taking a break between each route instead of just hyperreading through it is advisable. that shit gets monotone quick and towards the end not even the fun dialogues can save you from the closing in realization that it's just the same thing happening five times.

Sorry I've been slow and have only been playing it every now and then (doing other shit too). I haven't even finished a route yet so I'm not sure what to say other than I like it so far. I went with the childhood friend route first since she seemed like the least interesting girl. Currently, Tou is my favorite by a mile but a couple of the other girls haven't really had much screentime in the choices I picked. One minor complaint is that it feels like it takes a bit too long for some pretty obvious reveals to happen. e.g. chapter 8 is where Yuuma finally learns some things about himself but if you're not a retard you figured all of this out back in like chapter 1. This is also maybe a weird complaint but MC feels a bit too underpowered? Maybe other routes will be different, but I kind of expected more in terms of fighting ability at this point. Anyways, one other brief remark is that the voice cast is kind of loaded given both Wakamoto and Koyasu (voices the dude in the screenshot) are in it. Also the production values seem pretty good. Lots of CGs and even some animations occasionally.

They're definitely overrated but they aren't BAD -- the scripts are usually pretty funny and the H is pretty good. Plus, they're usually willing to do some spicier stuff in the H-scenes like choking or 3Ps.
