it could but it's expensive to get a mask right now. the ones from studios cost between 400 to 1000 bucks and some even more. the body suits are relatively cheap, around 70-90 bucks. then there's the costume which are expensive. makeing you own mask is one way to reduce cost, but as you've probably seen, "regular" people are bad artists.

shame theres only really two good makers that are both japanese, and you actually have to visit japan for one.

I'm making my own right now, depending on how it turns out I may sell one or two. It would have to be people I trust or people who can convince me enough they wouldn't do anything adult with them.

that's what's great about it. the kigurumi acts like hte character through gestures, and intead of seeing a person in costume, you treat them as though they ARE the character instead of just a cosplay. depends on the quality though.

also, you see a lot of Build Up Studio's generic "ena" mask. shes adorable but i would love to see more modeled after the faces of actual characters.

one thing great about kigurumi is that as a guy i don't have to shave my legs, arms, chest, put on tons of makeup to look like my favorite anime character. it's just put it on and take it off and not one will know that it was me. illusion complete.

yes! and you don't have to worry about your facial structure or even gender.

also as a tip: kigurumin/kigurumists do not like being reffered to as crossdressers. The point of kig is to have a suit of a character, not cosplay. You don't know what gender the person in the Minnie Mouse costume at Dinsey is, it's the same way here.

not really. most pictures of kigurumi girls standing next to average people show that they're very tall. The larger size of the head gives the illusion of a smaller body in photos with no real substancial hieght references.

i was thinking of making a mask using that foam material they use in mattresses and as packing for fragile stuff. use stiff wire to shape it into the mask shape. that way i could make the eyes possibly open and close and have the mouth set in different positions. sadly still in dream-world-mode tho....

to be honest, I find non-masked cosplay more disturbing, only in certain occasions does it work - with kigurumi you are much closer to the original.

Its the difference between 'that's a great cosplay of ' and 'that is' - if you know what I mean.

any reason you don't have a kigurumi outfit? i don't have one because of the cost.

I'm working on it. Getting a job soon. Mask is half made, sailor fuku is ready... just need the bodysuit and some of the more expensive things like a wig.

>> No.3218

I love kigurumi.

>> No.3233

also the main reason a lot of people don't have one is because buying a mask is very expensive and you're hard pressed to find a maker who will sell to you. and most people aren't so good with clay.

>> No.3240

>>3067
That's what it is! thank you!

cosplay = look at me
kigurumi = loot at her

>> No.3258

I want to do this so badly.
But being a rather independent person, I'm still living at home and have a hard time seeing future possibilities of leaving.
This would still be near the top of my to do list when/if I ever do.

Love kig. Wasn't so sure about /jp/ but now I know it is good.

Hah. No way.
Traditional family kinda thing.
Ones who are close minded, probably think homosexuals are people with mental issues.

I'll continue to keep tabs on it.
I'm above average on the artsy scale so I'd probably look into at least attempting to make a mask once as well.

I wanted to make a character with drill hair but I'm sure that'll be quite a challenge. Ton of cement gel probably.

hehe, got to admit, that's where I love my mama - if she saw me as a kigurumist, the first thing she'd proabably say is 'what the hell have you done to that dress?' and run off to grab a needle and thread hehe I love her to bits - In my younger dsys, she would dye my hair for me , save my sides (she was great at designs, I'm sure the dolphins she shaved in once got my laid that night) spray up my mohawk etc.

now I'm older we get on even better surprisingly, good times then, and now.

>> No.3741

another thought - when I was atuni first time around I joined the LARP club, now some of those guys were wizards with foam - I dont know how things have changed, but someone like that might be worth an approach - they would at least listento you thats for sure.

>> No.3901

>>3661
problem is most are using toxic and expensive stuff ot stuff that is heavy (like papermache). the other reason for using soft material is that i can pack it away easily (and hide it) unlike the hard masks made of frp/clay/etc.

i was watching the show "how it's made" and they showed how those mascot heads are made. they just layered a bunch of styrafoam pieces together to make a cube then trimmed it down to make the face features. then they sprayed it with adhesive and stuck cloth to it. but the head was kinda big. don't know if that'll work with these sizes.

the one problem the kigu players have is voice. one guy tried to change his voice on an online chat....let's just say it was really funny. no voice chats after that.....i told him he should get a electronic voice changer, but he said he didn't have money for that...oh well.

Technically Kigurumi... because of the bodysuit and mask. Her mask came from Dolphin which makes kig masks. She was the very first kigurumi I saw! I remember thinking "Holy crap a furry that's actually cute?" then her helper told me what it was called.

Unless youve got money you won't have a mask or anything soon... but definitely go to Kigurumi Kingdom or Kiguwiki and start browsing links. Or head down to rabbitinthemoon.us if you can tolerate the half-furry population the kigurumi people there are friendly and helpful and it's the most active english community.

a good start is finding a nice zentai suit for the uniform skin tone, lots of them on ebay, but for better quality try http://www.bodyweaver.com/
they do ebay sales and their stuff is of excellent quality, they have two decent styles for kigurumi bodysuit, the velvet one and the skin cotton lycra one
