Let's talk about anime terms or otaku terms both in the western world or japan that either are rarely list nowadays or they mean something different nowadays. Like for example the term weeb which is a shortform for weeaboo and that was a replacement for wapanese. Nowadays. it just mean something like anime fan or obsessive anime fan and has no connotation of wanting to become japanese anymore.

nowadays people consider a normal pin bag like pic rel (always these bags) to be one, with assorted pins both anime and not anime related, instead of filled to the brim with merch for a specific character.
that goes for any other ita- like itasha as well, people putting one anime vinyl sticker on their car and all of a sudden they're OTACOOL.

they typically only use it for shows with an anime-esque style, aka anything that has detailed humanoid characters. its like those types have an aversion to being called a cartoon, even though that's what it is and there isn't anything wrong calling it that.

Moe is quite ambiguos as a term and kinda of a modern example of those untranslatable japanese aestethic categories such as oware-no-mono, wabi-sabi or iki「粋」.
