Okay, planning to cycle to the Akashi bridge today (Wednesday). Hopefully will be there by 4pm, as I suspect I will start a bit late and it is quite far.

Here is the camera

Probably not the smartest camera to be on, cause ot the distance, but I did say I will go.

Anyway, I definitely took too much trouble waking up today, so I by the time I arrive it will be around/past sunset. So I guess I will have to show up on the camera tomorrow, but I am not sure when. Probably between 10-11am.

Hey anons, I've recently moved to the Aomori prefecture of Japan for work and today I went out on a brief trip in the mountains to take some pictures and visit an old shrine. The snow up there was insane, as I've heard Aomori usually is, but had its own special beauty.

Most of the drifts towered well over my car and you got a real feeling of being boxed in the entire drive. Trying to scoot past a snowplow on its way back from a ski resort on thin Japanese roads can really get the adrenaline pumping, let me tell you.

This was the view walking up to the shrine itself. There was an older man there in a bright orange jacket who seemed very surprised to see me, but nevertheless gave me a friendly greeting in rapid-fire Japanese. Unfortunately, he lost interest after I apologized for not actually being able to speak his language, but still gave me permission to take as many pictures as I wanted.

I know very little of Japanese traditions, but these statues had offerings and half-burnt incense in front of them so I imagine they're a place where prayers are offered, or maybe offerings to the dead. The old man from before walked over and started explaining things in Japanese again when I showed an interest in them. Since I didn't have any idea what he was saying, I just kind of nodded along and said "Hai" during a pause in his speech when it seemed appropriate.

I have no idea how old this statue is, but from the chipped paint and large amount of offerings that were at its pedestal I imagine it was quite important. It stood in the same protected area that the smaller statuettes were, albeit a bit more closed off. If I had to guess, maybe it's just something they uncover for special occasions or during the summer months.

For one extremely childish moment I had an intense desire to give the bell a good ring. There was no way I was going to let myself do something so disrespectful though, especially after the shrine keeper had put enough trust in me to let me wander around the area unattended.

This lonely wooden post stood near a decorative pond at the end of what I think was a traditional cemetery. There were large, very regular mounds in the snow that I imagine had some of those circular grass-covered graves beneath them, and you can be damned sure I picked my way through that snowy field with extreme care to not disturb anyone's final resting place.

Actually wound up getting my knee in this photo while I was doing contortions for the best angle. There was a large, oval-shaped rock inside the tiny building and I saw the glint of a few gold (pretty sure it was gold, might've been brass or something) items inside. I suppose I could've gotten down on my stomach and jammed my phone in there to get a perfect shot of the interior, but that seemed extremely disrespectful so this is as close as I got.

And that just about covers it. This is the last shot I took as I left; I never tried to get on the main building because it seemed to be attached to the small house that I think the shrine keeper lived in. He was shoveling snow off his roof when I left. I shouted Arigato Gozaimas to him as I left, but he either didn't hear me or didn't acknowledge me.
Hopefully you all enjoyed my mini dump. If there's anywhere else in northern Japan you want me to take pictures of, just let me know and I'll see if I can get out there to post them here.

It's a complicated situation. Basically, my company needed an IT monkey and hiring from the local Japanese populace fell through because they couldn't agree on an NDA agreement. Therefore, they needed someone who
1. Could fix computers
2. was already on the company payroll
3. was willing to travel long term
4. was available RIGHT FUCKING NOW
So as it turns out I was the only option. Everyone I work with speaks English, it's just the broader Japanese populace that I have trouble communicating with since I never expected to be living in Japan and therefore I know exactly nothing of the language. Some nice anons here pointed me towards the Japanese guide in /djt/ and I'm using it, but my language skills are still pretty damned limited.

I haven't yet found a simple list of when trains show up at the station.
but, there's this
http://www.hyperdia.com/en/
then you have to enter stations, like "AIZU-WAKAMATSU" and "YUNOKAMIONSEN", and pick a time etc. This will give you about 5 trains to pick from, and under the Aizu train you'll see a link for "Station Timetable", which will actually give you a list of trains that serve that route, and then if you click the train you'll get the timetable.

and also this
http://www.aizutetsudo.jp/timetables/

Also it seems that the two sources aren't identical, some trains are one list but not the other.

Here is a Kobe-Osaka Hankyu train ride video!
Also the photos I took on my cycle trip to the bridge, sorry for being late.
On Thursday I made a video from a front seat on the Sannomiya-Umeda (Kobe-Osaka) Hankyu train. In retrospective probably should have enabled the 60fps on my phone. Maybe will do so on some other videos I am planning to make. Then I can't use widescreen, but that doesn't seem to have been very useful anyway. Or I don't know, for a bit in the second half of the video I did put the phone on widescreen, but only because you can see a bit more than just the buildings around there. Let me know what you think. Definitely planning to make some videos with a side window view on some lines or even a part of this line. Because I used my hand to hold the phone, it hurt a lot after that.
A fun fact is when the train is leaving the Sannomiya station you can see ahead a lot of people waiting at a station, a different station. That happens to be the JR Sannomiya station and Hankyu train just pass by on the north side of the JR station, but not connected in any way track-wise.
Also something I was not sure if I should mention. The day before I took a video there was a suicide on this line, at Mukunoso station, exactly on the side of the Kobe-Osaka (not Osaka-Kobe). I happened to be traveling towards Kobe on that day and my train stopped exactly before that station. Maybe 20-30 minutes later they let the train arrive at the station and let people leave. By that point the police had put the person in a body bag and then put some extra stuff to hide part of the station. You couldn't really see any blood, probably cleaned as quickly as possible. That day, 23rd of February, happens to be a national holiday, the birthday of the current emperor. The suicide occurred at 12:29. A bit over a month ago, at around 9am the same thing happened, at the same station. Then I was traveling from Kobe to Osaka like in the video I took. I take the express train, so it doesn't stop at Mukunoso, but it passes by. I am guessing it is the express train they choose to jump in front, for obvious practical reasons. At some station the express trains have their own track, so they are not near them when passing through the station, but a lot of stations are too small for that. Mukunoso is the first station after Nishinomiya-kitaguchi (one of the bigger stations on the way). You can hear the train horn when approaching the station in question and actually the other ones on the way to Juso it seems. But for example it doesn't do that on the station before Nishinomiya.

One thing that amused me about Itami Airport when I looked at it on google maps is that it straddles the border between Osaka and Hyogo prefectures.
Only about 1/4 of the runway and 1/4 of the terminal building, and the car park, are within Osaka prefecture, but it's still "Osaka Airport", or "Osaka Itami Airport" if they're being generous.

>> No.38832990

>>38832928
Itami is a city in Hyogo at that, not Osaka. But technically the airport is on 3 different cities, Itami, Toyonaka and Ikeda. Most of it is on Itami. That said I have no idea why Itami extends over the river, would seem like to having the airport under Itami jurisdiction might be the only reason. Also it is called "Osaka International Airport", but it is for domestic flights only, though it used to be the main international airport in Kansai long time ago. That's probably the reason why it was named Osaka too, so foreigners know where the hell they are going.

just watch this guy park his motorcycle in traffic, carrying a baby on his back, hop over the divider, place the baby on the floor and took photos of it.
then turned away from the baby and took photos of the trees/scenery and some concerned old lady came up to the baby sitting on the middle of the sidewalk.

I'll look for more. Motocyclist tourism seems like a relative big thing in Japan - at least domestically with the naives.

Seen lots of Kawazu live cams posted but dont think this one has been - plus this one has sound.

4, not 5? I have heard the time can be different from place to place, but it usually five. It is a unique chime from town to town. The myth is that it started as a way to tell farmers to go home. Certainly it is a signal for children to go home nowadays, especially in winter it is getting dark around five. But the most important thing is that it is a daily test of the emergency broadcast networks.

>> No.38881953

Yeah definitely 4pm. I've also heard about the usual 5pm chime 五時のチャイム but lack of experience means I couldn't determine if this 4pm chime is the same but earlier.
Since Kawazu has earlier cherry blossoms maybe it has earlier chimes? I dunno.
Will see again at 5pm.

Riamu was one of the characters I saw most frequently in art of the meme, apart from Gold Ship from Uma Musume, and cartoon horses are a touchy subject.
Not many people make 3D models of rail mascots. Do you have a specific one in mind?

I can't speak for everyone else in this thread, but my suggestion would be:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akabeko
>Akabeko (赤べこ, Akabeko, red bull) is a legendary cow from the Aizu region of Japan
Since the original cam and the new cam are in the Aizu region.
Does it have to be humanoid? There are some humanoid versions of it if need be.
