I teach K through 8. Yes, the trees were done by the younger kids lol.
When the students asked what I was drawing, I just told them "a blue knight fighting a red knight." I didn't want to give any specifics, otherwise they'd hit up Google and hello Nasu sex scenes goodbye job.
One 4th grader started running around saying, "I'm the red guy!"

OP since you're an art teacher I want your opinion on that thing I drew for my art class. I'd like a third opinion. (yeah I know it's not original but we needed to reproduce something). It's pastel with marker for the highlight.

Could use a lot more work. The lines are too wobbly and give the impression of bad anatomy. The legs are specially obvious, knees don't "bend" like that. Her left one is specially too large, and her right one doesn't give the perspective feel necessary for the pose. Hands could use work, but maybe could be excused due to how uncomfortable pastels are for defining small lines.

Saturate more, be more agressive with the shadows, there are far too few of them. Be more clean when working, there are parts where you're going out of your linework; pastels can be hard to deal with, but it's possible to do it cleanly. Why not color the hair and underwear?

Indeed, you could do some more agressive shadows. Don't be afraid to use brown and purple pastels on this. Your drawing is lacking depth because of this, which is why anatomically it looks strange. In the, her legs source don't look strange because of how the shadows help define the perspective.

My biggest piece of advice would be regarding colors. Don't be afraid to experiment with different color combinations. Instead of just using a single pastel and pressing it darker to get shadows, mix other colors to get those rich shades that would really help make your picture pop out. For example, the bed Sakuya is on consists of pink and purple hues; transfer some of those onto Sakuya's skin in order to give her more depth. And to separate Sakuya from her bed better, color the sheets with darker cool colors, like blue. Right now, your piece is very white; our eyes tend to glaze over white, so more saturation will definitely help. And as a general rule of thumb, I like to avoid black. Black overpowers any colors around it, and feels like a cheap way to get shadows.
You've got a good foundation. Just keep building on it, and you'll be fine.
I've attached a piece I did with colored pencils to give you an idea about the kind of saturation I'm talking about. Opposing colors next to each other really help to catch our attention. And instead of black, I combined contrasts to get those darker hues (for example, with the top trees I combined red and green).

To all the people who want to be artists in this thread, just keep drawing! I'm an amateur myself and I've been going through a dry spell recently, but it's important to never be intimidated to the point where you don't want to even draw. If you're afraid you'll make mistakes, don't be. We learn from mistakes, and that's how we get better.
