I think it's more abstract than that. he's definitely pushing an anti-"good people should be defenceless sheep" philosophy as usual, and combining it with a sci-fi premise of "but what if each individual soldiers had the power to wield superhuman destructive force?". 3. We now know that anything Hideyoshi says about the murders can't be trusted. But this also means that what he says is limited, because he can only say what the culprit allows him to say. We see Kanon lead him through describing a body that only the two of them, plus Nanjo, claim to see. Because Hideyoshi describes the body as only having half a face, we know that it's impossible for both of them to be mistaken if Shannon is lying there and pretending to be dead. Thus, we know that either Shannon is lying there and they know she's alive, or she's not there at all. This can be used to prove that Shannon isn't there if you know that Shannon=Kanon, which then explains how the first twilight was done.

I actually like Matsuribayashi, even if it gets silly, I feel that that's the point, a festival with all the characters we like to close the story, and it also has a lot of great moments with Takano backstory.
The ending and last part can be pretty bs for some people but honestly I kinda like it, Higurashi is about friendship, leaving someone behind at the end would feel weird, and honestly I found it to be quite the poetic farewell, yeah it can be silly for some people and that arc has a lot of over the top things, but for me it was an enjoyable read filled with emotions.

Yeah, Higurashi is a story about friendship, but Takano never was a part of that. She was the ruthless murderer responsible for the tragedy of Hinamizawa.
It feels wrong for her to be forgiven and getting away without punishment after everything she has done in the previous chapters. It was okay to make her likable and to a degree understandable, but turning her into a sad, incompetent maiden at the end was dumb.
She obviously wasn't like that in Minagoroshi when she mercilessly killed the club crew while laughing like a maniac.

Also, r07 has always followed a pattern with every vn he's released. Taking 4 months, then taking 8, then back to 4, and so on. Chapters/Episodes would get released in both August and December each year. The only exception is himatsubushi which took a year.
Even Higanbana and Rose Guns Days followed this format (except Last Season which took 5 months instead of 4, releasing in Jan). Trianthology was also released in August.
His special released like Higurashi Hou and RGD The Best were also released in August.

However, he released Ciconia and Saku in October last year. He didn't follow his format, and hasn't followed up on schedule either. Is phase 2 that rare exception? Or is Ciconia as a whole the exception?

I'd appreciate it more if they acted like normal teenagers, honestly. There is this strange disconnect from what a real dialogue is supposed to be that settles whenever they start going on a rhetorical tangent, and it ends up feeling like Rhetabile or Stanislaw and everyone else involved in the conversation are just group reading from the same textbook without any particular tone or interpretation, which comes in detriment of their individuality. I cannot, for instance, distinguish between multiple of the characters when it comes to their personalities. You could switch names and sprites and it would often still feel like they're the same person, so to speak.

I hope that changes, but it doesn't feel like an intentional design choice so much as it feels like a last resort expository dump to make up for Ryukishi's questionable choice of compressing a very large story into four instead of eight chapters as used to be the case. And the political commentary ends up feeling one dimensional and shallow as a result, since politics are after all the result of a conflict of interests which is more often than not very nuanced and requires intersectional, individual analysis, which cannot be summed up by unison expository dumps. I hope it all turns out better and more fleshed out as the story progresses.

fanservice is secondary when it comes to waifuge, the key is writing a scenario where the reader will see the female characters in a romantic light and have an easy time convincing himself that if he were in the main characters shoes he would certainly be desired by them.
one of the keys to waifuge is that the girls don't spend time with the protagonist just because they want to (many of the readers don't have female friends), but out of necessity. they have a shared goal, are fighting a common threat, are shackled to each other with magic or whatever. even the romance itself often follows that pattern. characters will be placed into embarrassing situations together, pushed into bodily contact with each other "accidentally" or "against their will", have sex to recharge mana and similar sad, ridiculous workarounds. waifu-fags can't picture themselves approaching a girl romantically on purpose (they might get rejected!), and they have no idea how they should respond if they were approached themselves, so this is the only way they can insert themselves into the story.

To be fair you have to have a very high Intelligence Quotient to understand Ryukishi's punishment games. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of quantum superposition most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head.
